I was told at very least 15 months. My weight was to be stable for more than 6 months before trying. We started trying at 15 months and I'm now 6 weeks along and 18 months out from surgery! I don't have PCOS or anything, but I would say to listen to your dr because getting pregnant early out is do-able, but isn't really the way to go. Let your body get used to the new stuff!! It helps mentally too! Good luck!!

Make sure you wait the recomended time so that you do whats best for your baby. There are many reasons why you should wait and they are big ones. Let yourself get back to a good place and as healthy as possible for the best outcome for the baby. You will be much happier you do

I never dreamed of having another..I am PCOS and had to go thru fertility for my 1st who will be 7 in april. I wold make an egg but I couldn't release it (plus my husband had cancer in the past and they told him it would be next to impossible to ahve a child...) I had the gastric bypass nov. 08, lost 160lbs and just had my panni removed in may of this year. Went to the beach in july ..boogie boarded, went on waterslides and even had some wime. When I got bac****pt saying that I felt a ball in my uterous, but I had started a combat fitness class in june so figured that I was finally toning up!! A week later when my coworker commented that she had had 2 periods and I have had not one...I went out at lunch break , got a test, did it in the bathroom at work, and got a big old POSITIVE..I was in shock...and from there it is where I am now. I cannot say that my PCOS has changes too much after the surgery. I am still very hairy (on my face..)but I guess I ovulated right??!! Good luck. I am very glad it was after the 2 years out. I have had a very difficult time with eating after the surgery..they dx. me with anorexia, I rarely eat anything which has posed a real problem with this pregnancy. I have only gained 9 lbs and if I was eating right they wouldn't care so much, but they re concerned. So that is my LONG winded story..good luck! You'll do great!

Most drs say wait 18-24 months until you're weight loss is stablized for several months.  Part of the reason is to give your body the ultimate benefits of the WLS; you have a 'window' of about 12-18 months of 'easy' weight loss, and after that, the weight loss is much slower and more difficult.  Obviously, the more you lose before this window closes, the better.  Also, during your extreme weight loss, you yourself are more likely to suffer from malnutrition and have a harder time getting in what you need to eat for yourself...so you don't want to be pregnant while doing that.  If you did get pregnant, assuming you have it to give, your baby would get all the nutrition first, leaving left overs for you...but if you already have deficiencies, there may be no left overs for you, and you could suffer long-term problems yourself afterwards.

I don't have PCOS, but it seems that many of the ladies with PCOS are able to get pregnant somewhat easier after WLS.

ETA:  If you do have RNY, you face malabsorption of meds also...which means your birth control pills.  You need to either add condoms as a method of birth control or look into something that does not require absorption through your digestive system.

that was one of the reasons i was looking at getting the lapband was because the malabsorption and pregnancy, but i have heard alot of negative things about the band.  I plan on waiting the recommended time but like everything the sooner the better(but not in this situation). Thats exciting hearing of other people with PCOS getting prego after surgery!!! I havn't been on birth control in about a year (just used condoms) but went to the doc yesterday and he gave me the nuva ring (kinda freaks me out to put that up there!!). Does anyone know if i have to get it changed after or should the absorption be the same?

Hi there! Well, I meant to reply the other day and didn't get to, but I wanted to share my experience. I had gastric bypass almost 4 years ago now. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was about 19yo. I opted at the age of 25 to go through with the surgery because I was young and was told it would increase my chances to clear up the PCOS and make fertility easier. I managed to loose almost 140lbs total in 2 years. Then, I started a slow regain process. I met my new husband and remarried in 2008. We haven't used any protection methods and I was taking birth control every 3 months to induce my cycle. My PCOS did not go away with the weight loss and getting pregnant didn't appear to be happening. I took on 3 stepdaughters and eventually became ok with the idea of possibly not having a biological child. However, my body and God had other plans! I went on the South Beach diet after getting fed up with my regaining and lost about 25lbs before getting a BFP! :O It was quite the shock, but I honestly believe loosing the amount of weight I did and restabalizing my blood sugars with the diet helped to allow me to become pregnant. So, it wasn't much easier for me after the surgery to get preggo, but it was obviously something that could happen because it did!!! I'm so much happier also that I'm down 100lbs from my highest weight right now and I could NOT have even begun to imagine carrying the extra weight of a child growing inside of me on top of my own extra body fat. I'm now almost in my 8th month and due March 1st with a sweet little darling baby boy...so it does happen!!! :) Best of luck to you in your decisions and know anything really is possible!!
