Post Delivery Medication

for all those who have already given birth, what post delivery meds do they ususally give? Is there anything (other than NSAIDS) that are contra-indicated with RNY? My OB isn 't really up on RNY ( although he tries hard) and I just want to be as educated as possible, but I can remember for sure.

TIA!

RNY on 08/16/05 with
I had a regular vaginal birth. No cuts or tears. They gave me ibuprofin every 8 hrs. If I needed more, they gave me some Tylenol with codiene. I had a tubal about 6 hrs after I gave birth, so I my worst pain was from that. I know we're not supposed to take ibuprofin, but I figured for a couple days, it wouldn't kill me. Besides, I'm 5 years out from my RNY, my stomach should be fairly strong. (Just my opinion, nobody needs to flame me for that...LOL)

Best wishes,
Kina

I just took Tylenol. I have a second degree tear and have stitches. The pain was not that bad. They did offer to give me norco for pain but I did not feel as though I needed it.

I am so excited for you!!!! It wont be long now.

Hey there, I had a vaginal birth with two or three stictches,  and I took Tylenol for a couple days. I didn't feel I needed anything else. Good luck!

My first birth (c-section) was prior to my RNY, but I know that the pain medicine they gave me is allowed for us...percocet...love that stuff!  I'll be asking for it this time. :)

If you are really worried, ask your surgeon and they can make a suggestion on what you can take. I know if BFing there are a less options too. Sorry both my babies were before my RNY. I did not take anything with the second even though I tore.

I had a c-section with my baby 10 days ago and I had Percoset.  I am a DSer so technically could take some NSAIDs, but I choose not to because I have read a couple horror stories of NSAIDs causing major problems in DSers, and I thought it would be hard to explain to the many OBs and MWs I saw that I could take a little bit of NSAIDs but wasn't comfortable with a prescription strength amount.  I had some pain control issues with the Percoset alone so the OBs let me have a dose of oxycodone (Percoset minus acetaminophen) between Percoset doses for a few days.  I got a bit loopy but I'm breastfeeding and my baby was fine, still nursed like a champ and wasn't any more sleepy than the average newborn, IMO.

I was given liquid tylenol with codeine while I was in the hospital and took advil (on a full stomach with pepcid) as needed for a few days.
