When to move from bassinet to crib?

First time mom, and not sure what to do....

For those of you who have little ones: About when did you move your baby from the bassinet to the crib?

My son is 7 weeks today. He's been hitting his hands on the sides of the bassinet for a couple weeks or so and, of course, it's getting worse. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I hate it! My heart is just breaking when I think about him being in that nursery all by himself (the bassinet is in our room). And I don't know if I can stand him  not being with me.

What a Catch-22!!! I want him to grow up a little so I'm not feeding him every two hours in the night. But when it comes time to make a move up the ladder, I want to hold him back and keep him a newborn forever. (Did I mention I cry every time he grows out of an outfit? LOL--pathetic, I know...)

Anyway, I'm really interested in your experiences.

Thanks, Kina

You can always start him off in the crib for daytime naps, he will get used to it faster :)

That's a good suggestion, but I went back to work 13 days after he was born...Good news, he goes with  me. That's probably part of my separation issues, we've been together 24/7 since he was born. I've only left him twice for like 10 minutes and he was with his dad those times!
Thanks, Kina

I think it was about 3 months or so-I did when I noticed my daughter and/or son was scooting herself/himself constantly to the top of the bassinet!  Their little head would always be touching the top of the bassinet when I would go to get them after a nap.  That was always the sign for me!  When they were big enough to start moving around in the bassinet-I moved them to the "big" crib!

You could always put a monitor in the nursery if you wanted to be able to hear him.  Sometimes that helps ease mommys fears!  I know-it is a big step!

I'm not sure when is the best time to move him....I've been having this issue myself. We have four kids already and two are home from college right now so I can't do anything with the room that will eventually be the nursery until the Spring semester and the older two go back to school. The baby will bunk with us until then. As protective as we are with our kids the baby may sleep in our room until he starts kindergarten. lol

I did want to mention that I bought an Angel Care monitor. It has a sensor pad that goes underneath the crib mattress and detects breathing movement. It's also a regular monitor. I don't know what I did with just a regular monitor in the old days. I know I used to get up all the time and check on them. I am hoping that when we do have to move him to his own room that it will help ease my anxiety a bit. They are about $100 or less.

I moved Hayvann over once she started sleeping all night. That was about 3 months. I keep a monitor in there even now and she is 13 months old. She is way down the hall from us and I need to be able to hear if she cries. Sometimes thats not always good when she is having a night when she wakes up every little bit and fusses and goes back to sleep. Its worth it though lol.

I moved her once she started to grow out of it I would say 2 or 3 months. I put a good monitor in her room, she is nearing 5 and I plan for that monitor to stay there till she moves out of the house! I like when I hear noises in the night that I can just take a peek at her sleeping soundly....
