Breast pump

Could anyone here please recommend a good breast pump?

With my son, I rented one from the hospital and was unable to produce any milk. I had a reduction about 4-5 years prior to him.

Now that it's been about 10 years since my reduction, and being my 2nd baby, I am to the understanding that I have a better chance of producing milk. So, I would like to get a breast pump without spending too much money but also not buying a junk one either...

Any input, suggestions, etc would be super appreciated.

Thank you!!!!

Hands down, the Medela pump in style is the best pump I've found. When my twins were in the NICU, I had to pump exclusively for over 6 weeks. I used several types of pumps, from a hospital grade Ameda Elite, to an Avent. Medela had the most "natural" feel to it and allowed me to pump more than even the hosptial pump in a single session.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I have been watching Craigslist for a Medela one...I'm just afraid to buy one and then still not produce milk and have wasted the money...

Should I wait till the baby is born?

Hey Jes!!  Personally I would wait and see if you are going to need one.  They are a fairly big investment, and if needed you could always rent one for a couple of weeks from the hospital then get your own.

If you are not going to need to pump long term, then renting would probably be cheaper, and I can give you the name and number of my lactation consultant in Plano.  She rents several different types and her rates are cheaper than the hospital.

Also, if I'm not pumping anymore when the baby is born I'd be happy to pass along the Pump in Style that I'm using.  I'm planning on pumping for the first 6 months at least, not sure after that, but we can definitely chat.

That's great info Debbi. Thank you.
If you don't mind passing her info on to me, I'd appreciate it.

And, if at some point you aren't using yours anymore...I'd appreciate that too.

That was my biggest concern is if the same thing happens this time as it did last where I was literally lucky to get an ounce a day and that was pumping every 2 hours...it was horrible. I did rent the pump for a month from the hospital then.
Not sure what will happen after my maternity leave, but the people here at the office are pretty cool that if I can bf, then I imagine I'll be able to use one of the rooms here to do it during they day....

Thanks again!!!
BTW, how is Natalie doing??  Loved the pics!

Hugs,
Jessica

Contact your insurance company. In some cases, the entire cost or partial cost of a breast pump can be covered if your doctor writes a perscription for one.

I ended up paying $20 for my Medela and insurance covered the rest because my supply was low and my twins' pediatrician wrote me a perscription.

It's worth a shot.
