Vitamins While TTC & Thereafter
Hi all!
It's been a few years since my RNY. My partner and I have finally decided to start TTC. I'm having alot of trouble finding info on what vitamins people take during TTC and while pregnant. I wanted to be taking an ideal regimen specifically with the folic acid, for at least 3-4 months before TTC. I've been reading that some people just take thier normal WLS vitamins. Some people seem to take their normal multi on top of a pre natal. Then I found some other combos.
Seems like as far as protein, everyone's doing 10-20 gms above their normal required intake and it looks like most people are eating 300 extra calories. But it's mixed on the vitamins.
What did you guys do while TTC, if anything, and then while pregnant?

Hi! (waving)
To start, you should get a full lab panel done. That way if you are deficient in anything, you can take care of it ASAP.
For RNY patients, it is very important to get 1500mg calcium citrate, B-12 sublingual (or shot), extra Vitamin D3, 2 multivites & I would add an extra 400 mlg of Folic Acid per day.
As you can see from this board, many dr.s and nut opinions vary. To the point it is downright scary. Make sure there is iron in your multivite or take it separate. But, it is important to have the labs done because a deficiency can affect your fertility. Not sure what your vitamin schedule is like but if you do the same routiine every day, it becomes easy. Good luck.

Ironically enough, I just got back from the Doc, where I was getting an ultrasound to check for PCOS... doc suspected I had it before WLS, so we were just checking to be sure. According to them my ovaries "look good." yay!
I also had a pap smear and blood drawn last week.
Everything is in range except Vitamin D, which was at 18L (normal range 30-100). I think this is because I haven't been consistent with my Calcium regimen, so as of today, I'm getting back on track with that. Then the doctor put me on Vit D 50000IU weekly to bring that level back up.
Currently I take a Bariatric Advantage Multi, Vitamic C, sublingual B12. I will recommence taking my Calcium consistently. I guess I'll just find a Folic Acid supplement and add that in?
I am also on a 60-70% raw foods diet, so I take in a fair amount of nutrients that way as well, of course not as much as I would have pre WLS.

I take...
6 calcium, 2 vit d (5000iu) every other day alternating with 1 every other day, b12 every other day, 1 iron, 1 b6, 1 folic acid, 1 DHA, 2 Bariatric Advantage multi vitamins.
Most of it was what I was already taking,,, I added the extra folic acid and DHA when I got pregnant... I've only had my labs done once so far during my pregnancy, which was about 2 months ago, but that helped me to adjust my vitamins, and I'm going to do them again this week. I recommend www.wlsvitagarten.com as she has a whole section devoted to pregnancy and labs, and has a list of labs she recommends getting checked monthly.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
