Can't stop losing weight while pregnant...

Well I am 16 weeks pregnant and have struggled to stop losing weight. In the beginning I threw up so much it was ridiculous. I lost about 7 pounds the 1st 8 weeks and then seem to gradually add most of it back. I have now lost an additional 10 pounds. 6 of them seem to be since Thanksgiving. I have not even thrown up since that day, so I don't know what is going on. I have been trying to eat so much and no matter what the weight comes off. My labs also aren't doing well, but those were taken at 8 weeks. They think it was from all the throwing up, so now they have me on extra supplements. I am low on potassium, sodium, calcium, good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, vitamin A, vitamin D, protein, albumin, and my glucose was low.
They don't seem to be too concerned about the labs since I have added extra stuff and stopped throwing up. They will check them again in two months.
Also, even though I have lost weight according to the scale my belly is growing and the baby appears to be healthy. My concern is this. They told me that if I lose up to 15 pounds they may hospitalize me. They also said that if they feel the baby is getting enough nourishment from me then they will take it out at 32 weeks possibly. That is so scary to me.
Has anyone else dealt with the weight loss? AND was there anything that you could do to make it stop?!

Thanks so much!

Are you underweight?

I continued to loose weight up until almost 24 weeks, after that my weight has stabilized and now I'm slowly gaining 1/2 to 1 lb a week. My OB isn't worried at all since the baby was right on track for growth.

At 16 weeks, your baby is still very tiny and hasn't started the period of rapid weight gain and depositing fat, there isn't much reason for you to be gaining a ton of weight right now. If baby is growing fine, I wouldn't worry. Ask to meet with a nutritionist, go over your eating plan and see if there are ways you can add more calories to your diet.

I would be concerned that your OB is trying to use scare tactics on you. A 32 week preemie is VER SERIOUS (my twins were born at 30 week, pre-WLS and spent 6 weeks in the NICU), that fact that they would even mention delivering you that early would be a HUGE red flag for me since there is no reason to think the baby is suffering at this point. I'd find another OB right away who will not jump to such rash and dangerous options.

No, I'm not underweight. Still about 20 pounds from my goal weight. I live on an army base, so I am assigned the doctor's I have. I don't have much say in it. I actually really like the doctor and I think she was talking more about the what if's, but I am just worried.
I am happy to see that you started gaining eventually! That gives me hope! I do plan to try and see a nutritionist. So hopefully that will help!

Thanks so much for your input!

It took me forever to start gaining weight in my last pregnancy. No issues and I lost quite a bit before I eventually gained my 12-15 pounds at the end. I would have the doc do more research on the surgery and all. Thats what mine did here. We are army also and my doc listens to me so keep trying on them. Problem is if you add too much and change too much then you will eat well and maybe too much. All they did were scans of my daughter to make sure she was growing and whatever went on with me was ok. She grew just fine the whole time. The only time they should take a baby early is if the baby is not growing correctly and it had nothing to do with your weight gain. I would not let the docs scare you like that. They might need just some more help with info on how our bodies do with pregnancy. Have them speak to your surgeon and all. Do not stress out over something maybe the doc needs more information on you will be fine and so will baby

I lost in the beginning, and then around 6 months, I started gaining with a vengence. I'm up 35 pounds, now. You're doing the right thing in keeping your doctors informed of what's going on, and taking additional supplements.

to my understanding you can see any dr you want as long as they were in the network for tricare/champus. Call tricare and get things clarified. YOU can ask for your labs to be drawn at anytime you want. THAT is your right.

your body is going through changes, drastic changes, just like having your surgery. EVERYTHING gets out of whack, it will take awhile to get back to normal. Especially when your pregnant. Extra hormones, and all your nutrition etc is being fought over by your own body and the body. The baby will take most of the nutrition that is put into you.
As for you not throwing up? your over your 1st trimester and thats when morning sickness usually subsides. Consider yourself lucky in the non puking area.

ALSO request your dr to refer you to a periontologist, (higher level ob). Military insurance will cover it, seriously hon. You need to call them and talk to them about this. If your referred to a different office/dr etc then your covered.

Just eat as much protein as your body will allow you to do. If that means eating a couple of slices of turkey or ham or whatever you can stomach every couple of hours. You need to the protein to keep up your sugar. Also ask your dr or even tell him/her you want an ultrasound to see if the baby is growing on schedulre. Why? read my post on my dr appt from the other day.

Do not worry! I was the exact weight the day I had Israel as the day I found out I was pregnant.  I dropped almost 15 lbs before I started adding it back at 30 weeks...I had her at 35 weeks and she was 6 lbs 3 oz, no problems whatsoever....don't stress about it too much as long as your belly is growing and baby is showing up fine.

it is normal for post-op'ers that wernt at their goal weight to drop weight once pregnant! the increase in eating, plus the baby taking food from you lead you to loose weight, dont worry! if you are measuring normal, all is OK!! Once your body regulates out, you will start to gain slowly. I started my pregnancy at 185..which may not have been my goal, but i was there for a few months, and was ok with it. Then after getting pregnant i slowly dropped weight again.. all the way down to 168! (which really freaked me out) and i wasnt even sick at all! now, im slowly coming back up.. i'm at 177 now, which my OB is pleased with. If you know one thing about plateau-ing during the post-op phase.. is that if you increase your food intake (proteins, and good for you foods) you'll start loosing again! same with pregnancy! Let your dr. know about this.. or you can print off some articles and medical journals if she isnt used to post-op patients.
