Anyone over age 40 and pregnant?

I am hoping to have my surgery (VSG or RNY) in January.  I'm currently 38.  So, if I try to conceive after WLS I'll have to wait until I'm 40.  Just wondering if there are over 40 moms here or if you know of women who were over 40 when they got pregnant post-WLS.  I have always wanted kids, but due to my age I'm not sure if that is "meant to be".  Thanks for your input!

I do not know personally of anyone over 40 with WLS that has had a baby, but I know my OB says they see a lot more late 40-early 50's in there now having babies. This is my 3rd pregnancy, and 1st post WLS, and this pregnancy is a breeze compared to my pre op babies! I only worry about the weight gain, but I keep getting reassured that the weight will come off with some work of course. You can talk to your OB-GYN and ask them if they have had many women in there with those conditions.

I had my RNY about 3 weeks after my 39th birthday.  15 mos post-op and I am now 40 and pregnant.  My OBGYN said that I'm sooooooooooooo much healthier than I was 10 years ago that she's happy I'm pregnant now and not 10 years ago.

I also had a couple of friends who chose to have a baby in their late 30's before having their WLS.  Both of their pregnancies were very difficult and now that they are over a year post op and over 100 lbs lighter than when they were pregnant, they wish they had their WLS first.

I absolutely believe that becoming healthy first is the best way to go!  Good luck with your WLS and your future pregnancy.  Feel free to reach out and PM me if you'd like to chat about it.

I got  the ok to get pregnant 1 year post op.  I'm now 40 and 23 weeks pregnant!  This is my 2nd pregnancy and I'm healthier now than 4 years ago!  It's never too late.  Good luck.

I'll be 43 in March...had WLS at 38.  I've been pg 5x since WLS in 2006, with 5 mc.  My mc are not related to my age - at least not all of them.  Some drs say it's my age because it's the easy answer...that it's chromosomal from 'old' eggs...but my last pg in July 2010 they were able to do chromosomal analysis for and it was normal.  I'm telling you the reasons for my are not chromosomal so you know that at my age it's NOT the norm to have that many mc.  I have three genetic mutations for blood clotting disorders with the drs believe could be causing/contributing to my mc...and unless you're a mutant like me, I'd say you have a good chance at pregnancy.  May not be as easy for you to get pg as someone 20 something (though I have had no major trouble getting pg...4x by myself, 1x w/IUI).

Good luck in your decision...and welcome to the 'advanced maternal age' wanna be club!

Thank you for all of the replies!  I definitely agree that having WLS is a priority over trying to get pregnant right now!  I run a very high risk of pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes at my current weight.  Additionally, there is research to show that babies born to obese women have a much greater liklihood of heart defects... something that already runs in my family (I have a sister who died as a newborn due to heart defects and my father had a sister who died of the same).  I know that it is unlikely I would have a healthy or easy pregancy if I were to conceive now.  So happy to hear of the 40-something moms here!  That is very exciting!  Good luck to each of you.
