Hello Everyone! Just Found Out I'm Expecting!

Hello...it has been a looooong time since I've been on this site...mostly because I failed miserably with my surgery.  I had LapBand in April of 2008 and initially I had lost a total of almost 100 lbs...now I've gained about half of that back...some of it was due to having a stretched pouch and slipped band so I was emptied for a few months and then I was just terrible about getting back on track.  I take full blame for it!

Anyways, I'm back here now because I just found out yesterday that I'm expecting.  My boyfriend and I have been trying to conceive for about 5 months and we finally did it.  I'm wondering what other LapBanders have experienced with their bands and pregnancies!

Congratulations on your BFP!  and btw... 88 lbs lost is NOT a failure!  You're not at your goal weight but hey... look how far you have come!  Acknowledge your wins.  There are some great Banded Momma's here.  So I'm sure some of them will chime in.

Have a blessed 9 months!

Thanks a lot!  I appreciate it...I did come a long way but I have a long way yet to go.

I did so much research in the 5 months we were TTC that I realized yesterday morning that I knew a whole lot about TTC and nothing about being pregnant!  This is my first pregnancy and my band is already feeling tight.  I don't know a lot about nutrition and what my caloric intake should be...but I have trouble eating most days...and was looking for some advice there.  I'm sure I will have to go get my band unfilled a little bit at some point.

Congratulations, how exciting! I have a lap-band and I went about 6 months before going for an unfill. As the baby gets bigger, you may find that your insides start feeling "squished". I opted for an unfill because I was getting shoulder pain from being too tight... and now I have 4cc's in my 10cc band. (I had 4cc's removed... I was up to 8.)

I actually lost 9 pounds in my first trimester because of food aversions (but thankfully, no vomiting or nausea). Since getting unfilled, I have gained 38 pounds! I'm 8 months along, now. I still feel fantastic though, and am confident that I will be able to take it off once my daughter is born by going back to my strict lifestyle and diet and exercise routine. I'm making it a priority because I want to set a good example for my little one and I don't want to ever be "the fat mom."

I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months!

Thanks so much...I have a question about exercise.  Before I knew if we were actually going to be successful this month I had planned on "getting back on track" after the Holidays by going back to the beginning, remembering all my rules and starting over, as well as getting back into the gym.

Obviously I can stop eating crap and just eat good things...what about exercise...should I just be walking throughout my pregnancy?

Walking is completely and totally adequate. I come from the school of thought that something is better than nothing! Plus, they say that walking a lot toward the end of your pregnancy helps ease complications with delivery and can actually speed up labor. Walking is the ONLY form of exercise I have gotten since being pregnant, simply because I don't have the energy to do anything else! Before I got pregnant, I was at the gym at least 4x a week, took weight training and endurance classes, and ran. I have nooooo idea how some women are able to stick with their regimen when they're pregnant... it's exhausting!
