Help! Baby is Constipated

Hi All! I feel like it's been such a long time since I've been on here. I usually come on at work for a little while but we've been so busy I haven't had a chance. And forget about going online at home. I want to spend every waking moment with my little one.

Anyway...Lorelai is really constipated. She's pushing so hard and gets hardish sticky poo coming out. But only a tiny bit. We switched from breast milk to formula about a month ago and she's been fine until the last couple of days.

Of course I am going to call my doctor when they open this morning (even though she has her 4 month appt. tomorrow). I just wanted to check with all of you and see if any of you have recommendations.

Any advice is appreciated!

You could try giving her alittle but of prunes, water in a bottle to drink, some people add a little karo syrup in their bottle also.  If it's really bad you can do a baby suppository.  But, I'd personally try a little bit of prunes first since she's 4 months old.  Your dr may tell you can start feeding baby food at 4 months.  Good Luck

I've always had good luck with just adding prune juice to the formula. usually I would do 1 oz of prune juice + 3 oz formula.

White grape juice also works well

I always did the Karo syrup in an 2 ounces of warm water It is a Tbls of Karo to 2 oz of water. It normally did the trick, my son had a problem with constipation, and I had to do that, practically right after, it would do the job. IF it is really bad, try half a baby or toddler suppository.

I did the Karo Syrup which worked great of course a dr is going to tell you not to do that.  My dr also suggested a teaspoon of milke of magnesa is that the poo one or mylanta gosh i can not remember in formula that worked really great to.

A tiny bit of juice mixed in an ounce or two of water did the trick for my girls.  Its the formula doing it though.  I had to go through 4 formulas to find one that her tummy was happy with and didn't give her severe constipation.  If it doesn't resolve within the week you might want to consider switching.

(I use Similac Sensitive for spit up right now...she has a very sensitive tummy...only formula that works)

Pear Juice always worked for Tyler. Don't dilute it with water, just straight Gerber brand Pear juice and it was all good in about an hour after digesting. Till this day if he's comstipated I give him Pear juice (Gerber brand) and he's all good :)

Prunes work a little too well, so only feed her a couple bites especially if she hasn't really eaten solids yet. Or you can try a tablespoon of grape juice and 4 ounces of water mixed, that works too. Good luck.

Poor baby.  Sage is constipated right now too.  Gave her some diluted prune juice and it worked about 2 hours later.
