I had another sonogram at 27 weeks, as my OB is monitoring the baby's growth due to me only being 6 months out from bypass at the time I got pregnant. At 27 weeks the baby was estimated to be 2lbs and 8oz and doc stated she was in the 75 percential. I'm concern I'm going to have another big baby. You know I should be happy that the baby is not under weight, but is that overweight? I asked the doctor specifically, "so does it look like I'm going to have another big baby" and she said "seems so".

The reason I'm worried is I had gestational diabetes with Tyler and he was born 9lbs 6oz and I was hoping that this baby would be of a normal weight. Are some women just predisposed of having a big babies, do you think my past obesity had something to do with this? Do you think I'm over thinking this and should shut up and stop worrying about this? LOL....I know this seem superficial, just wondering is my eating habits or past obesity make cause me to have big babies?

I have an appointment with OB (28 week) tomorrow, so I'll ask her these questions, but wanted to ask you ladies here , as you're always so helpful to me. Just give me a virtual slap if I'm worrying over nothing ;)

I wouldn't worry too much at this point. Ultrasounds can be off by as much as a pound, they're just estimates.
Be sure to ask tomorrow what your fundal height is, if that is also measuring ahead, then you might be having a big baby (could also be genetics, some people just have large healthy babies).
Did you already take the test for GD? What were the results?

In my 25 week OB appointment I had a few weeks ago I was measuring exactly 25 weeks in fundal height. Every appointment I'm measuring perfect in fundal height with the week I'm in. I haven't had the GD test as I'm refusing it due to dumping, but this appointment she's giving me the meter to measure my sugar levels after every meal. She's going to do the "fasting" test, but haven't had that yet. I'm suppose to do that one tomorrow as well.

I wouldn't worry about it! Some people have big babies, some have small babies. My boys were small, 4lbs and 3lbs and so far this lil' guy is measuring small. My mom had small babies, she had 4 of us and we were all under 5lbs. My friend had 3 boys and they were all big, 8lbs, 9lbs and 10lbs. I think it is genetics. Did your mom have big babies? At least you know what to expect! I don't think size matters "too" much... as long as they are healthy. 2lbs 8oz does seem a little high at that age, but if you research/google, you will find some women had babies born at 28 weeks who were under a pound, some over 3lbs. Either way, your lil' one will be a blessing! Big babies are so cute! They are round and plump and I could just gobble them up!  Can't wait to meet your lil' one!

I would not worry at all.  There is this lady at church that has 7 babies so far and everyone of them were around 9 something.  A few even hit 10 pounds.  Her smallest baby was 8 pounds and 14 ounces.  She was never heavy a day in her life except when she was pregnant. lol  Some people are just going to have bigger babies.  None of my four got higher than a 5% the whole I carried them.  My biggest was 6 pounds and my smallest was 5 pounds and 4 ounces.

I had my growth scan at 28 weeks and they told me that the baby was measuring at a 32 week gestation age! They said baby's estimated weight was 3lbs 6oz at that point! I am now almost 31 weeks, and it feels like this guy is going to rip through me as strong as he is! The movements are getting painful actually! My doctor was concerned about GD. They forced the test on me twice and both times came back normal! i heard that the older a women gets the babies tend to get larger. My first was 7lbs 10oz, and the second was 8lbs 11oz they were both born at 38 weeks. I am scared to see how big this one is going to be!

Lianne, I had my 28 week appt today and my fundal height is measuring 32 weeks too!!!! OMG!!! Now we're both scared....I'm hoping that's an abundance of amniotic fluid and not baby or me.

just remember ultrasounds are a "guesstimation" device. IT is not set in stone...i mean hell, look at the people who were told and swore up and down they were having a boy and had a girl. Vice Versa.

They measured my last baby I had at 9+lbs at 8months...um when she was born she was 7'6...that was before she peed and pooed....my 2nd one was "suppose to be" 7lbs he came out the next day at just under 9. The only almost dead straight on was my first born...
just sayin...

Dont worry to much. Just think if you have a smaller baby it will be a piece of cake...cuz i sure as hell could tell the difference between having an almost 9lber compared to a 7lber...

One of my slimmest, most petite friends had a baby well over 8 pounds and one over 10 pounds.  She didn't have gestational diabetes or anything.  She just grows them big.

I think the percentiles can be pretty wacky, honestly - I was told at 27 weeks that my baby was about 2 lbs 3 ounces and the doc said that was the 21st percentile.  So your "big" baby and my "tiny" baby were only about 5 ounces apart, approximately.  By the way, my baby (who should arrive any time now, come on little guy!) appears to be close to 8 pounds by now based on palpation, which is probably as good a way to "guesstimate" at this stage as any, so even though he was low percentile three months ago, he might be a little bigger than average at birth.

Anyway, don't stress.  Remember growth ultrasounds are less and less accurate the further you get along in pregnancy.  They scared the heck out of me saying my first child would be very large, and she was 8 lbs 6 oz - not tiny by any means, but not the biggest baby born that week at the hospital or anything!

Thank you so much ladies, as you all have been so helpful and definitely have put my mind and worries at ease :) Well today I have my 28 week appointment, so I'll see what my fundal height is showing.
