We hit the Double Digits!!
I'm beyond ecstatic that as of tomorrow it will have official been 74 days- that's right 10 weeks- since we both started on our mission to quit smoking completely!!! The days went by slowly, but the sense of accomplishment I feel for the both of us is amazing!!! I'm not happy that I smoked through almost 13 weeks of my pregnancy (I quit off and on for the first trimester) BUT I put my mind to it and I've accomplished it! I feel so much better saying I'm a NON smoker now. I do have one question- are there any mommies out there who quit the nicotine while pregnant and picked it right back up after baby was born??? This is on the one thing I'm so petrified of. I'm nervous that once baby comes I may pick the habit back up and start back down that unhealthy road because I quit smoking to have my surgery years ago and lasted for about 5 months and back to it I went...Well, I hope everyone is having a great week and for those of you out there who are struggling with smoking while pregnant or just smoking in general- GIVE it up you WILL feel amazingly better in just a few short weeks and the cravings will pass!! The mind game is relentless and I couldn't count the number of times I think of lighting one up, but I WILL NOT do it!!
Have a wonderful weekend!! :)

Thanks Shannyn! I will be the first to say it's not easy, but I'm trying to stick with it!! :) I see another Ft Hooder...How do you like it there? I spent a year there before my husband got out of the military...he was in 1st Cav and I have to admit I miss the military lifestyle, but I'm glad to be through with Ft Hood and the deployments. How is it going with the twins?? That has to be super exciting!! Best of luck and thank you again!!
I love it here. Yet my father retired here in and we moved here in 86 so this is home to me. My husbands father also retired here. So both families here. My husband joined from here and has gone to Korea for a year and to Iraq for 15 months two times. So far since we ask to stay here they leave us here. My kids 17 and 12 have never lived anywhere else and for military kids thats a great thing. We are in Cav too. :) Twins are doing well. I just feel sick to my tummy a lot but I work through that. My father quit smoking about 30 years ago just stopped and he smoked about 3-4 packs a day!!! My mother on the other hand struggles to stop and has so many health issues. So I love to see people who can quit and stick with it. She has copd and heart issues and circulatory issues so if you stop now stick with it :) health 20 years from now depends on it for sure!! Keep up the great work!!

When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I quit! She just turned 5 so it is going on 6 years now, and I have not started back up. That was after smoking for 8 years! If you have the will power to do it, you can! I just kept telling myself that when I have the craving, I quit for this long, it would be stupid of me to start back up! I was very stressed out as well after she was born because she was very Colic she cried all day and night, only slept for a few minutes at a time then was up at it again! So many times I just wanted a cigarette so bad, then I thought if I did smoke then I would smell like smoke and make the baby smell. It is all in the head, and you can so do it! Stay healthy for yourself and your baby!
Thanks Lianne! You are so right about it being a mind game! I know everytime I get in the car the first thought my mind goes to is lighting up a cigarette. I've been keeping a stash of mints in my center console so that I still got through the motions as if I'm going to smoke, but the sugar free mints are a much better option!! I'm getting ready to travel home to PA for a visit in a little over a week for Christmas and I'm looking forward to the trip. My mom and dad- who WERE both smokers as well- quit back in April and are still going strong. I'm so anxious to see the difference in our family dynamics now that there is only one person who smokes and that would be my grandfather.
I'm going to do my best after the baby gets here to remind myself how that lady at the grocery store- who obviously smokes a full pack a day- smelled to me as I walked past her. It's so different how things really catch your attention smell wise when you don't smoke- and this is NOT because I'm preggo cus smells have in no way bothered me. I've smoked off and on now for the last oh say 9 years or so (more on then off) and my husband was an avid chain smoker who has smoked for around 10 or more. I'm hoping together we can keep each other focused on what the right thing is and that's remaining smoke free.
Thanks for the support ladies. It honestly is a different feeling and I'm so glad that we've gotten those first 10 weeks behind us and we're on the road to recovery. I remember just how much of a struggle weight loss was and I keep reminding myself...I did it to be HEALTHY and smoking is just another check in the UNhealthy category, so it's time to let that one go for good!! I'm very excited for the future that's for sure :)

You're not going to start again. You know why? Because you don't want that precious baby breathing cigarette smoke and smelling the smoke on mommy's clothes and in her hair. Not to mention that you're going to be too tired and busy to have time for a cigarette!
If you need more motivation, the surgeon general just issured a report that has found, among other things, that there is NO safe level of second hand smoke: http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2010pres/12/20101209a.html
