Weight Gain Concern

I am 21 weeks pregnant. Up until my 17 week appt, I'd gain a pound or two then lose. At my 17 week appt, my weight was right where it was when I got pregnant. Now... in the last 4 weeks, I have gained 9 pounds which concerns me. I had a hemorrhage 2 months ago and was put on bedrest and just now at my appt yesterday was given the ok to start walking again. My dr lectured me yesterday about my weight saying it was unacceptable to have gained 9 lbs at 21 weeks pregnant. Just a little worried that I'm gaining too much too soon.

Don't get too down on yourself. I had gained a few pounds in the beginning of the2nd trimester, then I would go for my next appointment and be down a lb or two. My total weight gain up until 24 weeks was 8-9lbs. Well, when I went to my 24 week appointment I was shocked to see I had gained 7lbs in one month!! :O The doctor (I got to a practice with 4 main obs), who I hadn't had before, was pretty snotty about it and kind of made me feel bad. I wanted to cry, but I just kept telling myself that gaining 16-17lbs when I was 24 weeks pregnant really wasn't that bad. I've watched my junk food intake since the appointment and I've changed up my eating styles just a little here and there. So far, I am holding steady at 202, which I started at 185 so I'm still holding on at a net gain of 17lbs. I don't really think there's all that much we can do to avoid weight gain during pregnancy. Try not to let it get you down too much. We all know how hard and frustrating it can be, but I've truely come to believe that my body is going to gain what it feels is a healthy amount of weight regardless. I work out on my eliptical 3 days a week for at least 30 mins, minimize my snacking and choose healthier snacks...as long as I know I'm not sitting around eating fast food all day every day with junk food nonstop I'm not feeling as guilty. Keep your chin up and hang in there!!! Best of luck throughout the rest of yoru pregnancy!!

You really are doing really good. I have gained about 40lbs already! I have been stressed to the max as well that has a lot to do with it. My doctors are not as concerned as I am. I just do not want to take in all the artificial sweeteners, so I am doing real sugar, which probably has a lot to do with it. I am just like that, but I am planning on doing something about it as soon as I can after the baby is born I am going back to my RNY ways.

The weight should start packing on now because the baby is growing so much at this point. Don't worry, when the baby is born you will still have the tool to lose the weight. Just focus on healthy baby right now!

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
