Glucose test alternatives

I have a Glucose Test scheduled for 12/10/10 (which is at my 28 week appt) and I had no idea I had the right to refuse it? That's great because I was not looking forward to possibility of violently dumping. I just sent an email to my OB/GYN (inspired by this post) stating that I will not participate in this testing and is there an alternative. I'm patiently awaiting her response. ~~Gina
Gina,
Good for you. You never have to do anything you don't want to.
But most especially this glucose test. While it is still important to have some form of it done, do not ever let them make you do something you know your body will not permit.
Good luck and please let me know what alternative they decide on for you :-)
My appt isn't until the 14th.

Hey there, Gina,
I had no idea of all the things we could decline, either, until I did some reserch and took a Bradley Method of natural childbirth. There are a MILLION tests and interventions they will tell you that you *need* that you can decline if you so choose. Glucose is for sure one of them. I do the fasting blood test every month just to be safe. Did you know you can decline the antibiotic eye goop they put in the baby's eyes when they are born? That stuff is meant to fight STDs that you probably don't even have. If you and your partner don't carry ghonnerea or syphallis (I am a horrible speller, sorry) then you don't need the goop. You can decline an IV, too. It's crazy how much the medical world has turned a natural thing into a totally clinical proceedure. And now I am getting off my soapbox. :-)

I was worried about dumping, they gave me a early one at 16 weeks and I did dump, but it was a Godsend almost because I had been constipated for a week before so after I had relief (sorry TMI). I was so angry when I went in to the office at my 28 week appointment they were FORCING me to do it again. When I say forcing, they were not going to allow me to do another form. They said I can do the test by eating 18 larger Jelly beans, or drink 14 oz of a coke. So after about an extra 2 hours of them keeping me in the office to tell me I have to repeat when the first one came back normal. Needless to say I repeated it, got sick, and then it still came back normal! I was so livid although they were pushing it because the Ultrasound showed that the baby is roughly 4 weeks larder than the dates.
Yes, it seems like the first and only conclusion the doctors come up with is that it HAS to be GD until proven different. I told them I was not having anymore issues with my blood sugars dropping on me sense I started eating more often, but they did not care. I told them that I thought I had Ovulated early too, because we seriously did not do anything in the time frame, unless it was immaculate conception, then it could be on with the dates. They refuse to change the dates.
Yeah I made a joke that I was going to start hitting the gym full force when I hit 37 weeks to push this kid out. Apparently it did not go as a joke cause I was pretty much reprimanded the funniest part about it was that I can barely walk now, let alone run! HAHA
I am a bit upset that they want to wait till 41 weeks if I have not gone into labor by then and they will do a C-section due to the baby would be estimated to weigh between 12 and 13 lbs!

UPDATE JESSICA : The doctor responded to me with the below after I told her I would not be particpating in the Glucose Testing scheduled on 12/10/10.
"Well, instead of the glucose test, you can get a fasting blood test when you come in for your next visit. Then we just might want you to do the fingerstick testing as if you had gestational diabetes, since you had it with the last pregnancy. We can talk about this at your next visit."
So there you have it. I don't have to go through that painful "dumping" process and it's all thanks to this post. I have rights that I didn't know I had :)
