Doc wants me to do the glucose test.
I told him I couldn't.
He was okay with that...but now he has to research what alternatives there are...can y'all refresh my memory on what RNY'ers do in place of the glucose test?

Thanks!!!

I have had 2 post-op babies with 2 different drs. (long story).  I didn't do the glucose test with either one of them.

First dr., she asked me if I had access to a glucometer to take my sugar levels for a few days and to just bring my results back in the next month.  I did, (a friend of mine is diabetet and she had a spare), so I took my sugar level first thing in the morning, and then 2 hours after each meal for 3 days.  I then took my results back in to her the next month.

The dr., he just had me come in and do a fasting sugar level (blood work), (A1C) and that's all he did!

Thanks Debbie. That is helpful.
I will certainly make note of those in case he hasn't figured out what to do when I go in for my appt.

My doc, love him to death, his only WLS patients are lap-bands...so I guess I'm his first RNYer....

I just took my glucose test today.  While I didn't vomit or anything, it did not make me feel good and I will NOT do it again.  The doc told me that I may have to do it again later but I will refuse the next one.

Yikes, I'm sorry you had to take it.
They already know that I refuse to take it so I am hoping they are prepared for whatever alternative they can find...

Definitely refuse the next one!!!

I am currently going through this right now.  My doctor gave me the glucose meter and told me to test 4 times a day. One time right when I wake up and 2 hours after each meal.  I have to do it for 2 weeks.  I dont think I am going to have any problems...mine is really low.

I hope my doc ops for that...I think I can handle that better  :-)

Thanks for the info  :-)

All my doctor did was at my 16 week appointment I fasted before bed, had the first appointment at 8:30 in the morning without eating and had my blood draw. They did a check of my H1AC count. I have to repeat the same test next week at my 28 week appointment. My first test came back on the low end of the spectrum, so they aren't concerned, but they like to repeat the test at the 28 week appointment. The test is absically a 2-3 month average of your blood sugar measurement. Ask your doctor to run that test for you if you aren't keen to the idea of the finger *****ing for days or the glucose tolerance test. Hope that helps! Good luck girl!

I have a Glucose Test scheduled for 12/10/10 (which is at my 28 week appt) and I had no idea I had the right to refuse it? That's great because I was not looking forward to possibility of violently dumping. I just sent an email to my OB/GYN (inspired by this post) stating that I will not participate in this testing and is there an alternative. I'm patiently awaiting her response.
