Pregnant and questions about glucose test, gestational diabetes, etc.
I'd like to know if its suggested to do the glucose test, I already have blood sugar issues with eating - I crash most of the time right after eating.
My OB and his nurses are printing pages out of files and textbooks on how to take care of a bariatric patient it makes me nervous, but I do love their office and staff.
And I am worried about the growth of the baby - they said the next ultrasound will be done between 20-24 weeks ... the 'gender' ultrasound.
Perhaps I am just nervous or over reacting but I didn't expect this pregnancy and I want to do everything right by this baby as much as possible.

Whew i feel ya on the OB looking at a book not really knowing what they are dealing. With those some concerns, I eventually changed my OB to one that actually had WLS patients. Eventually I just got fed up with the last OB doc not asking the right questions my WLS doc said they should be concerned about.
I was just asked to do a glucose test, but after talking it over with the doc we decided to NOT do it since it would cause a dumping affect and I literally cant drink that much in one sitting anyways. So I just get a glucose finger stick with a 12 hr fasting at my 2 wk visits now that I am in my 3 trimester. No big deal and all is well.
I lost around 30 lbs, 198 to 168, in my first trimester, went to a max of 190 at the end of my second trimester and now am at 185. So really I havent gained any, lost and at both of my ultrasounds the baby was doing just right. I have to admit I have been heavily fatigued and exhaused and I really do think its b/c of the protein and iron levels. I have been eating more, esp in my second trimester, but now its like I cant eat half as much stuff. I throw up at least once a day and I am dumping more. Yeah this is all bad, but again the doc has reassured me the baby is fine and I need to get use to eating more freq and lessen my portion sizes.
Overall, as with many others who advised me throughout this whole preg dealing with WLS, I am fine and so will you :) Nervousness is normal and keeps you on your guard. A good thing.
