Well I haven't been an active poster on this board in some time since having my baby girl in July, although i do definitely still lurk and chime in every now and then!
Life has been extremely busy, i went back to work 8 weeks after having Bella Rosa and that is about the same time that my ppd came to light. The signs were all there but I didn't want to face it. I never had thoughts of hurting myself or my child but i was hyper sensitive to having my daughter in any ones care, other than my own, even for a diaper change.
I didn't want anyone to hold her or even touch her for that matter, yes even my husband. When i went to my 6 week checkup, i had an anxiety attack and almost left in the middle of the appointment because i couldn't stop shaking and crying ( i had left Bella at home alone with dad for the first time) No one, aside from our parents, even met her before 8 weeks.
My Dr. basically forced me to take her out!
Going back to work terrified me, they wanted to medicate me...i refused as i was/am nursing.
When it came time to go back to work the only option was for Bella to go to daycare, the mere thought of that caused me to break out in hives on more then one occasion.
I was able to avoid that for another 2 weeks by begging my mother to come back and stay with her during the day while i adjusted to going back to work.
Well, I'm happy to report that I am seemingly over that hurdle, Bella has been in daycare for almost 2 months now and we are both doing GREAT with it. I LOVE the staff, as does my little girl!
My ppd is under control, mostly because Ive allowed myself to have as much help as possible (what i feared the most) Just kind of tackled it head on! Cant lie, i really attribute it to lots and lots of prayers!!
Well we have come to a new hurdle, and that is finding out that Bella has special needs.
It was confirmed last week that she has a severe hearing loss in her left ear =/  its so far gone that the audiologist felt it would not be beneficial to amplify.
She will be enrolled in Early Start and I am finding that the state has great programs for the hearing impaired and I was so pleased with how soon after the testing I was contacted by California children services, Early start, KidsnCare and several support groups who "just wanted to let me know there was support"
My husband is hearing impaired and we new it was a possibility that she could be as well as his form of hearing loss was genetic cause by Waardenberg syndrome, which tends to be a dominant gene.
But  it was still hard to hear. The Dr discussed at length the issues/hurdles she will face.
He made a comment that resonated with me, saying that a few years ago everyone would say "oh she has one good ear, shes fine" but now "they" know that not having hearing in one ear can be a huge hindrance.
He said that she will not be able to "localize" sound, meaning although she may hear us yelling for her, she wont quickly know what direction is coming from, and that she will also not be able to filter out background noise, making it all the more important to ensure she is spoken to directly in school and at home, not over a TV or a noisy room.
This is all so much to take in and I'm just glad I have a huge support system, family and friends and now I'm finding in the state.
Anyway...that's where Ive been and what has been going on!!
Bella is doing great, otherwise! She coos and "talks" all day long and started laughing 2 weeks ago, its the most beautiful sound!!
I'll leave you all with some of my favorite pics of my lil one!!!  Take care!!!

Oh Blanca my friend!!!!!

She is ABSOLUTELY beautiful!!!! I wish you nothing but the best when it comes to dealing with her hearing loss - and I am so glad that CA has some awesome programs! My bestfriend's son was born at 32 weeks and suffered MAJOR oxygen loss - it caused him significant never damage and hearing loss (he has double hearing aides) however she has had some great assistance from the state.

I am so glad you posted an update..... I guess I should do the same for Carter tomorrow :)

My husband has only been able to hear out of one ear since infancy, and he does just fine! Take advantage of any resources, but don't worry too much about it. She will learn to adapt to it pretty quick.

You named Bella appropriately...'cause she is beautiful.

I'm glad that you were able to find out early about her hearing problem so that you are able to address it from the beginning.  Having all the organizations and help that is available will ensure you're able to do the best for your baby.  I'm also glad that you mentioned the problems when someone is hearing well in only one ear...it's good to educate us all.
