Will someone please explain the the difference. I understand you carry a child for 40 weeks. 40 weeks/4= 10 months? I am 26 weeks so 26/4 is 6 1/2 months, right?, but Im not due until Feb. 19th. Im usually pretty bright but I truly am confused as to month wise how far along I am???

Well.. you are actually pregnant for about 10 months.  I believe they switched over to using weeks as a measurement sometime after I was born because my mom and my mother-in-law had no idea what i meant when I used the "weeks" terminology.  LOL  They always wanted me to convert it into months.

I had an older lady ask me how far aong I was and I said 26 weeks, she said "I dont know weeks how many months" I said "6 1/2" she said "ok so you are due in late January?". Confuses the heck out of me.

Thanks for your response

The first 2 weeks of pregnancy that you're "pregnant", are actually the 2 weeks following your period when you're not pregnant yet. (Because the first day of your period is considered day 1 in the cycle). There are also some months with a 5th week in them, which is why it's roughly 40 weeks, +/- 2 weeks considered in your due date. Hope that helps!

Some months are longer than others. People tent to think you carry for 9 months which is true kind of, you carry though your 9th month. Basically 52 weeks in a year comes out to 4.33 weeks a month, so depending on the months you carry you will be a bit different. I know it is confusing.

My husband and I had that same question so I looked it up and came up with this:
1.  Everyone commonly says a month has four weeks.  (If we do that, 40 weeks is 10 months.)
2.  BUT, four weeks is really only 28 days.  (4weeks x 7days in a week = 28days)
3.  Most months have 30 or 31 days. (2 or 3 more days than 28)
4.  That means 40 weeks can't be 10 months.  It is closer to 9 months.
5.  SO, here's how you can get your weeks into months...
Take YOUR weeks and divide them by 4.4. (You will get a very close month count.)

Example:  I am 34 weeks.      34 divided by 4.4 = 7.7    So I tell people I am 8 months.

I hope I didn't make that too confusing.
