I've read that the docs can determine gender as early as 14 weeks but many won't disclose it to the moms til 20,since it's more obvious than.

We are scheduled for our next doc visit next week, and I will be 14 weeks! We are very eager to find out gender so we could start taking advantage of deals&sales for cute things!!!(it's our first)

I know they will do an ultrasound on me because I've had some minor issues in the beginning that make me an 'at risk' pregnancy. I've had 3 already.

How far along were you when you were told the gender? Were they accurate?

It is possible to determine the gender that early, but it takes a very skilled ultrasound tech and even then it's possible to make mistakes. Check out the InGender forums to see what I mean. http://www.in-gender.com/cs/Forums/
There are a bunch of experts on that site that will look at your ultrasound and give you their opinion on what the sex is if your u/s tech won't tell you.

With my current pregnancy, the tech guessed boy at 12 wks and he was confirmed boy at 16 weeks (very obvious he was *all* boy @ 16 wks).

With my twins, the same tech said girls at 14 weeks and confirmed at 18 weeks. Twin B would always sit with her legs crossed so it was hard to get a good look.

If I were you, I'd stick to buying gender neutral items until you get a very clear, obvious gender determination picture.
Goodluck

Congrats on  your boy!

Thanks for the link.  I checked it out.  How cool to have that kind of site!

I'll be sure to post my 14 week ultrasound when I get it next week!

I was 14wks to the day when I found out. The Dr. did an "in house" ultrasound, they 'in house" ultrasound machine they have is more "advanced" then the ones in the actual radiology departments. With that one he did that day it was done vaginally. He even asked me if I already "knew" what it was and if i had an idea. The nurse pops up and says YES she thinks its a boy, and all of a sudden there HE was. Leg Leg and turtle shell...nurse said "i have 6kids already 7th on the way and there is NO GIRL parts on that baby!"
The dr then made the comment he did and I cracked up laughing. "I am impressed with that baby, usually at this stage it is very hard to see what they are. Yep a boy! NOOOOOO mistaking it, im kinda impressed, not kinda but VERY impressed"

Hi! What an awesome way to find out!

My first u/s was at ER & tht was pretty closeup&sharp..but I was only 7wks? My 2nd and 3rd u/s was done at 8wks and 10wks maybe? That was in house at doc's. Those seemed smaller (less zoom) and more blur. The third u/s was vaginal so I thought i'd see better..

Cross your fingers for me for next week!

I think it really depends on the tech, but look close between the legs. Usually the boy parts look like a little turtle, and the girls are 3 lines (I) lol! Good luck!

Thanks Stephanie..but I've looked over a few ultrasounds through the ingender site referenced above..and I can't make out the difference between the head and the feet! hahah!

Mean props to techs cuz I can't figure out WHAT I'm looking at, when reviewing these ultrasounds!  I just see globs of white and black.

hahaha.

congrats on your upcoming one!

At 14 weeks males and females both look very similar.  They both have a tubercle which looks like a penis to someone that is not experienced.  The view is very important because it is believed the noticable difference lies in the angle.  So it would have to be a side view.  There are independent ultrasound clinics that are willing to attempt gender results as early as 16 weeks I think.  But best time for gender determination is 18-20 weeks.  If you can get a good shot definitely post it on ingender there are some really talented people on there.  I think there are some other theories for early gender determination that you can look into there.  I was a bit obsessed with finding out early but ended up waiting till 18 weeks.

Here is a link to an ultrasound study that shows male and female at 14 weeks.
