PPD and lack of vitamin
Does anyone know if PPD is made worse by lack of certain vitamins?
I have to admit to being bad right now about taking my vits. I was a on a great schedule before baby but since he was born it has been hard for me to get back into the routine since coming back to work a few weeks ago.
My moods have been up and down. Some days I am fine and others...well, not so much...just a bit down and crabby. I really don't think I need anti-depresenants...not feeling that bad... but was wondering if my lack of routine vitamins could cause the ups and downs.
As of now I have my iron, B-12 and calcium bottles on my desk to remind me to take them and my chewable multi at home by the baby diapers!

OMEGA-3s! Try the supplement Expecta (if you are currently pregnant)---just remember to double the amount the package tells you to take, to account for your malabsorption.
I got some baby-blues after the birth of my oldest.... during my next pregnancy, I took Omega-3 (and vitamin D) religiously and had ZERO depression or anxiety. It made a world of difference. HTH.

After all 3 of my kids, I got really bad PPD and I think my hormones get all out of whack and it has very little to do with vitamins and if I'm deficient. With this last baby that was born in April, I had my estrogen levls tested at about 2-3 months PP and they were at like 400 (normal is like 300 I think is what my Dr told me), so they were a lot higher than they were supposed to be. Plus, I think something in my brain and the chemicals get all crazy too or something!
After each kid, I've had to get on Zoloft (and anti-depressant) and felt much better within about 1-2 weeks after starting it. It's amazing how a drug can lift your mood and change your whole world! I went from being anxious, depressed, moody and feeling horrible to back to my old self again after I started taking it. And I am only on it temporarily and then can get off, usually after about 6 months (only 3 months with my 2nd baby).
I think if it's not distorting your thinking and you can function, additional vitamin supplements (like B, etc), excercise and getting out of the house could really help you. I just couldn't function and didn't even want to get out of bed or take care of my baby when I had PPD, so I needed the anti-depressants. You'll be doing fine soon hopefully, GL! You just have to adjust to being back at work and getting on a new schedule with your baby and you'll be fine.
