Mine were never really all that good to begin with, but they are getting worse and worse. I have fillings falling out and crumbling to just nothing. My back teeth have had holes in them for the longest time- due to previous fillings falling out and my enamel never formed on my teeth properly, so this pregnancy definitely isn't helping me any in that department!

Are you taking Calcium citrate and extra D3? The D is essential in helping the calcium absorb. You should have no problem absorbing calcium citrate. You just need double the amount as regular people. A common brand is Citrical.

my dr said that some of us are able to absorb the calcium better than others. I have a friends mom who didnt even have gastric done and with each and every pregnancy her teeth got worse because of the babies sucking the calcium out of her body. Might want to see if the dr can do somethig else for you, or talk to the nutritionist to see what thhey can come up with for the calcium issue.

I do not take a Calcium supplement, but I do eat a whole lot of cheese and Greek yogurt, so I get my calcium the old fashion way. I do not have any problems with my teeth other than a couple cavities. I do not do very good with drinking milk, but I do even drink a pediasure every now and then.

You do realize that you are absorbing very tiny amounts of cacium from the foods? If any at all? Gastric bypass patients lack the ability to absorb calcium from food or regular vitamins. The only way we can absorb it is through special calcium citrate supplements or an IV at the hospital. Even if you're just had your levels checked, deficiancies can take months or even a year to show up.

Most of my permanent teeth never formed...so since I am nursing baby teeth and implants in the locations where the roots finally gave-out in the baby teeth -I have always taken really good care of my teeth. Cavities have never been an issue for me.

However, I just went to the dentist and I have THREE cavities!!! Hmmmmm....maybe I should get my calcium levels checked, lol.

I have my levels all checked and they are great!! I am one of the lucky ones I guess. That is all I eat though is the calcium rich foods (and the occasional baked potato, because I crave the darn things). I am not a dumper either, but I do take my multivitamins. My doctors were not upset, the only thing I have had a problem with for levels is iron. That is because even before my RNY I was on the border for that. I take those sups daily.

Mine are too but have been for a couple of years.  My doc never said it could be related to wls but I bet it is.  I don't take extra calcium either b/c I never seem to remember.  I probably  need to get bak on the ball with that.  I do take my vitamins just never seem to remember the calcium.

Will put that as my goal to do - more calcium!
