1st ob-gyn visit
hello all. My dr. gave me the go ahead to start ttc at 12 months. I am only 14 months post op but since we had been ttc for about 2 years pre-op, and i am 30 years old, i figured it best to be safe. So anyway i had a pap which she said my ovaries and cervix looked perfect. Then she sent me to have my thyroid tested. It came back high so she had then test a different kind of thyroid which came back normal. She said this indicates to her i am borderline and she could treat or not treat. She said she would like to start treating it because the benefits outweight the cons. She said that hyperthyroidism has been known to contribute to fertility problems and miscarrages so she wants to start me on meds, which is fine by me. i know it could possibly lead to weight gain but at this point I am willing to risk it. Then my husband had to go in for a semen analysis, which he was super excited about (ha! since i had to get a pap it's only fair). Everything came back normal except it was a low amount. We are right in the middle of my fertile window and had sex only 9 hours before his analysis so she suspects everything is normal but does want to retest him once i start my period just to see if that amount was normal or not. He feels like it was a low amount for him, but isn't really sure. Other than that I go in for a ultrasound next wednesday to make sure everything is physically ok, that there aren't any blockages or anything. After that i will see her again and she will start me on my thyroid meds alond with some fertility medicine. She said she will keep me on the fertility meds and if i havent conceived once i'm on them for 3 months she will refer me to a fertility specialist.
So anyway just wondering if this is a normal process? Did your dr do things in roughly this order? I was kind of shocked that she would refer me to a fertility specialist after being on meds for only 3 months. Is this normal? Any feedback you could offer i'd really appreciate. Oh and as a side note neither my husband or I have any kids, so we are trying for baby #1 =)
And with the thyroid meds, take them!!! Just make sure they monitor you really closely and change your meds if needed. Ive have issues with my thyroid since 13 years old and for the first time in year my meds are finally where they need to be.
Praying for you as well.
