30 weeks and loosing parts of my mucus plug???

Just wondering if it is too soon to be loosing parts of it? I'm going to call my OB in the a.m. but thought I would also ask here. How long after you lost yours did you go into labor? I am only 30 weeks, 1 day. Kinda freaked out about it. It's definatly my mucus plug. Not a lot, about the amount if you were to blow your nose from having a cold or something. Slightly yellow in color and well looks like mucus. Sorry if TMI but it is not bloody or brown, and I am just having the normal cramps with stretching from pregnancy growth. No contractions or leaking of fluids. Should I be worried? Thanks!

Yes it is to soon. I only lost mine after my water broke. I wouldnt of even wait to call your dr. id o in to get checked. I had that happen to me in august, thinking I had lost it. Come to find out I had a.n infection, mild one. Simple antibiotic cleared it up. When you have a funky discharge usually should go in, cuz it is looking like your plug, it could be an issue. NOT SAYING THERE IS, just to be safe.

Your mucus plug can and does grow back. It's not uncommon for bits of it to come out (especially after having sex).  Also if you're having lots of Braxton Hicks, pieces can come out.

I wouldn't worry about it too much but it's always a good idea to give you OB/MW a call just to be safe.

You can lose some and have it seal back. Some women lose it just prior to labor, and some lose it weeks before. If your concerned, I would ask, but also as you get farther along, your discharge can get heavier.

Thanks Ladies. I was wondering if sex could have anything to do with it some also. My Husband and I were intimate Friday evening and this started happening Saturday so that's my guess. I haven't had anymore come out today so far and I am not cramping either. Unless I start cramping badly or bleeding then I'll call my OB immediatly but until then I'll just let my OB know on Wednesday when I see him for my biweekly appointment. Thanks again!

Just had our first Childbirth Education class last Friday and she covered this! Yes, it is common. no, don't need to worry unless it is red blood (new blood) colored, foul smelling, itchy (like the onset of a yeast infection), fluid leaking (water sack puncture), hurts to pee or intense pain other than normal or Braxton Hicks. Most the time the ER nurse will just congratulate you for losing your plug and send you home LOL Most the time calling the OB will only refer you to the ER to get checked out as they cannot assess you over the phone.
