sharp pain in right side
Thank you for answering my question, too. I have a really bad pain, just under the ribcage on the right side, and I guess not only does pregnancy cause gall bladder problems, but we as WLS patients are already kind of predisposed to it. I'm 5w5d, and have noticed this ever since about the time I got my positive. It just gets worse and worse. Off to call the doctor.
Again, thanks!
Again, thanks!
Yep...I've heard RNY can trigger the gall bladder problems too. I had mine out years before WLS - mine kicked in and started acting up immediately after my son was born. The pain comes on very suddenly and is very intense. I didn't know what the hell it was when mine acted up - I was only a week or so out of delivery and thought it was just a left over from delivery. Took Advil until it knocked me out several hours later, then would wake up and it would be gone until the next round.
I know they said that spicy foods or fatty foods can make it act up more...so w/you being pregnant, they will likely want to put off surgery to remove it until after you deliver your baby and try to control it w/diet. Obviously they avoid as many surgeries as they possibly can while you're pregnant. I do know there is at least 1-2 women here who had their gallbladder removed while pregnant, but it was an emergency surgery because it was very bad and not going away.
If it is that and they can get it under control, don't worry yourself unnecessarily about the surgery for the gallbladder - it's usually laproscopic and doesn't have a long recovery time.
Good luck w/your appt. I believe an u/s will confirm whether or not that's what it is.
