My baby has a cold

I have been using a vaporizer in his room with menthol air mist and also a nasal aspirator. He has difficulty eating because he is so congested. He is not running a fever and the secretions are clear. Should I just let it run its course or try an OTC decongestant. Any suggestions? He is 9 months old and about 25 lbs. He has his 9 month appointment on Tuesday. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

As long as the mucus is cear and he is breathing ok, I would let it run it's course and talk to the Doc on Tues if not better. Tis the season unfortunately I have used saline spray to try and clean out/loosen nose phlegm so I can aspirate better. Sometimes even simply holding them in a warm shower will help loosen things. If he can drink lots of water that may help too. Good luck, hope he feels better soon!

I was told not to use decongestants on babies even under 2 years old. So I'd call your doc before doing that to make sure. I did the old trick of vapor rub on the feet then socks over it before bedtime and it really did seem to work. Good luck, it's so hard when they're sick. Poor thing.
