couple questions- stomach acid & glucose test
hello all. im almost 9 weeks pregnant and only 12 weeks post op from sleeve surgery. Ive been taling Omeprazole since surgery for stomach acid as prescribed but never really needed it. I didnt have any symptoms until I got pregnant. The omeprazole stopped working and as some on here so kindly told me, you shouldnt take Omeprazole while pregnant anyway. Ive switched to nexium 40 and it does help tremendously in minimizing symptoms but doesnt really take it away completely. I dont have heartburn exactly, its more like a constant burning in my stomach. I take tums frequently and they help for a moment but then it all comes back. Any suggestions for meds i could take throughout the day in addition to the nexium. im so tired of feeling my stomach! I feel like Im either starving, burning or stuffed.
also, i was just reading about others asking for alternate routes for glucose testing. I had GD with my 2 pre op pregnancies and they want me to do an early glucose test within the next week or two. i totally get why bypass & RNY patients couldnt do this test. US sleevers dont have the same issue with dumping but i hadnt thought about the fact that it could be too much liquid & extremely uncomfortable. should i refuse as well? I agree that I could just take my own fasting blood sugar each morning. I know that I could possibly develop GD based on my history but am wondering if any other sleevers have been able to tolerate this test.

I refused the traditional glucose test because the amount you have to drink in such a short time. My OB said it was 5 oz & had to be finished in 5 minutes. My pouch barely holds 3 oz & that's pushing it. So, I did postprandial glucose testing. They check your sugar. You go eat a meal that's normal for you. Then, you have your sugar re-checked 2 hours later. As far as the acid goes, I take Nexium 40mg Daily & Pepcid Complete twice a day. I've done that, since surgery. Also, I take a gas x strip with every meal. It helps with that full/bloated feeling. I keep some kind of cracker available at all times. They help with the starving & burning sensation. I like goldfish, saltines, peanut butter, & cheese crackers. Hope this helps !!!
No Problem : ) I hope it works for you !!! I can definitely relate to how you're feeling. I was only 3-4 months post-op, when I got pregnant. So, I hadn't really gotten used to my "new stomach". Being pregnant made it even harder to get used to. It is a lot of trial and error to find foods that you can tolerate.
