I am so worried about this stupid glucous test and how i'm going to be able to do it.  I still can't drink fast, and I still can't tolerate sugar.  How did any of you ladies do?  My obgyn is aware that Ive had surgery and aware that I cannot tolerate sugar....  Any suggestions or advice are appreciated!  Thanks!

You can decline the glucose test (any test for that matter).

Tell the OB you'd rather ***** your finger and get readings that way (some doctors will also use a jelly bean test in place of the drink). Yes, it'll involve more work on your part, but it's a MUCH more accurate indicator of GD than the glucose tolerance test with is historically inaccurate and has a very high level of false postivies (which means you'll have to go back and take the 3 hour if you fail).

I'm declining mine because I can't tolerate corn syrup. Instead I take my blood sugar before and after eating and record the numbers for my OB.

Do you or your family have a history of diabetes or GD? If not, the chances are slim that you actually have GD.

I simply told my OB that I couldn't do the glucose test and drink that sugar drink and they said it was fine for me to do the fast and then draw my blood.  I would tell them you can't do the test and need to do the fasting/blood draw instead.

I am High risk due to past miscarriages and my son passed away after a few hours born so my OB is extremely thorough! He pretty much said "You need to have this done for the health of you and the baby so we know how to treat you if need be." I wasn't going to argue with him there. So he prescribed me Zofran for before the test and one pill 3 hours afterwards. They also had me lye down after I drank the juice. Wasn't a bad taste but it was obvious there was a lot of sugar in it! It tatsed like  a very strong orange soda, I think about 4-5 ounces. With the help of the pill and lying down with a Nurse to sit with me I did just fine. Infact I didn't need the pill 3 hours later either. When my Husband drove me home I just took a nap because I was only tired afterwards probably from the nausea medicine I took beforehand. I was glad I did it, I found out that my level was a very healthy normal and I was releived that baby and I didn't have to worry about gestational diabetes. I think worrying is far more worse than the actual test as long as your OB makes you feel comfortable like mine did with the pill and lying down while a Nurse checked my vitals and talked to me. I would do it again if I had to have it done again.

I did it, and it is 50 grams of sugar! I did not have a problem tolerating sugars until then! Now they want me to do another one because that was done at 20 weeks. They said they need another one done at 28 weeks. I was livid and asked them why I had to take more than one and I am angry because I swear it made me gain 10 lbs alone with that.

I did mine about 6 weeks ago. Take someone with you, and make sure you tell everyone who deals with you that you had RNY. The nurses at my hospital were great, and they appreciated that I had brought a family member with me, it really helps them out.

My OB is having me do a fasting and he is doing a metabolic panel at the sametime. That will give them an average of what the sugars are running. I also told him about what i was told on here about eating a banana and half bagel an hour before, he says thats a good idea but since i live an hour from him, i cant gurantee i will be there in an hour exactly. SOOO this is the best next route.
YOU dont have to do any test that you have questions about, your Dr or OB/GYN should listen to your concerns and come to an outcome you both can come to terms with.
