Pre-delivery breast pumping -- anyone?
At my appt last Friday (have another one today) the dr said if I was getting tired of being pregnant the only two things that could bring on labor were sex and breast pumping/stimulation.
Has anyone ever pumped before giving birth? Did you have any labor results?
I've been doing a lot of internet searching/reading on the subject of pumping before giving birth. I really can't find a definate answer to "do it" or "don't do it". I can see that it can cause contractions. And it looks like your body will produce the colostrum that is needed for baby after the birth as needed, no matter when you start expressing milk.
I'm open for suggestions....I intend to try this after work Monday if nothing has happened naturally by then. My dr has offered to induce me if I want, but that sounds harsh. Maybe I'm wrong on that...
Thanks

I know it gets hard towards the end. If you can try to let you body go into labor naturally, it is best for you and for your baby. Obviously it is your choice, but it is best to at least be informed before you make a decision. There are things I wish I knew before I had my first. Here is a link for some more information: http://ican-online.org/pregnancy/induction-labor
The reason it would work is because it releases oxytocin which is the hormone your body releases when you're in labor. You also produce it whe bfing which is what helps contract your uterous to it's normal size again after delivery. I was shocked to hear that I could have more contractions after I gave birth (how unfare is that? LOL). But they never hurt me. I was told it's usually not too bad for a first pregnancy.
