EXTREMELY painful BM's (sorry)

So for about a month now (I'm 3 months, 1 wk prego) I have been having trouble with BM's. I had the RNY is 2004 and have always been semi-normal (going every 2-3 days) well now sometimes it takes a week to get things to "move" and when I do finally "go" it's very very little and EXTREMELY painful.....Also since I strain it causes me to spot slightly...

Any ideas why this is? Anything safe to take while pregnant to get things moving again?

Well, it's gross, but you can take magnesium citrate. Up your fluid intake and fiber to help prevent this, constipation during pregnancy is very common.

I totally feel your pain!  What I take every day sometimes twice a day is: 2 Senna and 1 DOSS (senna is fiber and doss is a softener) I take them every morning and sometimes at night too.  Sometimes there's a little cramping, but atleast I'm pooping!  And they're not hard little rocks either.

I delivered 6 weeks early a 5lb 15oz lil boy:)  After spending 2 months on bed rest in the hospital and Mason spending 11 days in the NICU, we're both home and doing great!  Mason is getting bigger and gaining weight like he should.  Now it's my turn to lose this weight!  It's tough to get back on the band wagon...I CAN do this!

Thanks...I'm gonna have to stop at the store and get some (they sale these at Walmart correct?) I can't stand it anymore so I can deal with the cramping as long as things get to flowing hahaha!

Yes they do.  So long as you can handle the larger caplets, get the 250mg of DOSS, senna comes standard in 8.6mg tabs.

I didn't have the constipation as much as I had the gas, but I added V8 high fiber- 8oz a day in the morning and a glass of Metamucil during the day after lunch and I've noticed that it's really helping me stay regular...I go just about every morning and it's actually seemed to help me some with the gassiness as well. My dr said to just gradually increase my fiber though because adding too much fiber at once can also bind us up as well. Good luck- I know how bad it sucks being uncomfy because you can't go number 2! :(

I am almost 32 weeks along and all of a sudden have been hit hard (pardon the pun)with constipation. Usually my daily morning cup of coffee has helped keep me regular since my RNY in 2006 but the last month has been very painful. I started taking an all natural vegetable laxative which has not given me cramps and usually a half dose will work gently in 6-12 hrs so I take it before bed as needed and usually return to regularity come morning (which is followed by praise and song LOL).I have been trying not to take any type of medications other than Tylenol so this was a blessing! Got mine over the counter at Wal-Mart I believe!

I ended up in the ER for my severe constipation pain so I TOTALLY understand. I took 1 senna a day and 2 colace. When it got really bad, the only thing that works was the Dulcolax suppository. I used those when I couldn't wait a day or 2 for the colace and senna to work. They were a godsend!

Good Luck! This is one part of pregnancy that sucks, but I would do it all over again if given the choice.

P.S. Dulcolax comes in pill form or suppositories, I just wanted to let you know so you knew I was talking about the suppositories. Using one of these will also help with the amount of pain when you actually finally have a BM because it loosens the stool immediately.
