Prenatals
Women who are getting ready to to try to conceive begin taking prenatals (or at least they should a few months in advance), right?
So my question is: should I just add a prenatal to my regular vitamin routine *now* to prepare for in a few months when we are TTC? Or should I just double my multi?
Is it possible to have TOO much folic acid? My multi already has 400 and the prenatals have 800....and this is the same for other vitamins that are found in both. Should I be concerned with over-doing it with any of the vitamins?
Thanks!

I've been on prenatals and 5 mg of Folic daily in addition to my normal RNY post-op vitamins for the past 6 months. I'm 40 yo and we're TTC in 2.5 wks (woo hoo!) Since I'm 40, my obgyn said that I should be on the prenatals and folic for a good 4-6 months before TTC. There is no such thing as too much folic. The more the merrier actually. Although it's pretty rare to find folic in a dosage higher than 1000 mcg or 1 mg. I found this 5mg dosage online (did a search on amazon.com.) Folic acid is like vitamin C in that there is no "too much" of this nutrient. So load up and plan for a healthy baby - especially if you are in your later child-bearing years as I am.
And best bet... check with your obgyn letting him/her know about your WLS.
