I was wondering.... did you have to add more vitamines or did you just take the same amount you were taking before you got prego?

Great question! For sure, you need a really good prenatal. Also, according to my research, we need:

folate
b12
iron
calcium
vitamin d

I'm looking forward to reading what others say!

I've been here since 2002, I just like to pretend I am NEW!

If my multivitamin contains the recommended amount of folic acid in the average prenatal, would I still need to add in a prenatal?

You defintely need prenatals since you need extra folic acid.

My doctor told me that I need to double my dose of Flintstone vitamins, and calcium if I am not drinking milk or eating my dairy! I have to take a Iron anyway, so no problem with that and I was already taking my B-12.

Yeah my bari surgeon has upped my iron and Vit D because I was a little low on my 1 yr surgiversary checkup/labs review. I've also been taking prenatals (Ultimate prenatals from Vitamin Shoppe) and 5 mg of Folic daily for the past 6 mos. I'm TTC next month.

I also checked w/my nutritionist a few months ago and she says that for now just the prenatals and Folic are good. But I'll be doing labs every trimester and will have my obgyn and bari surgeon review them. I'm 40, so that's why my folic intake is so high.

My review of many prenatal vits on the market found that my bariatric vits were considerably higher in the necessary vits than those that are labeled prenatal.  I am sticking with my bariatric vits as I don't want to step backwards.

Hi, I'm a little late in replying as I'm on now and again.... But this is what I take:

2 Bariatric Advantage multivitamins (chewable,,, I had been on Celebrate but decided to try BA when I ran out)

1- Folic Acid 400mcg- there's 800mcg in the multi's but taking extra to be sure i'm getting enough

1- Iron, ferrous fumarate I believe it is 60mg (I should probably take 2 daily but have issues when I do)

6- Calcium Citrate (250mg ea= 1500mg daily)

1-2 Vitamin D 5,000 units (1 daily alternating with 2 daily)

1- Vitamin B12, 1000mcg every other day

1- Vitamin B6, I think it's 50mg?

1- DHA- the non fish kind.

I think that's it!!!
