When you're considered high risk, how soon do they usually do an ultrasound?

I would say 6 weeks. So they can maybe see a heartbeat.

When you say "high risk" what exactly do you mean?

If you're at high risk for ectopic pregnancies, they'll u/s you ASAP (4-6 wks) to confirm a pregnancy in the uterus.

6-8 wks is usual for almost all other pregnancies, including high risk. There's not much to see before 8 weeks.

My dr recommends an ultrasound at 8 wks unless you are experiencing problems.  According to him, you can't see much before 8 wks.  I think that is his standard whether you are high risk or not.  I go Wednedsday for my first US.  This is my first pregnancy, so I don't know much from experience yet.  Hope this has helped some.

Well, I went in for an appt this afternoon with the nurse at my OB's office and she said they would do one around 8 wks...I am high risk because I've had two miscarriages and RNY.  I will be looking forward to my first ultrasound for sure just to put my mind at ease!

I have been considered high risk since my first child was born 15 weeks early and my second was an ectopic.  So far I have had 2 ultrasounds with another one scheduled for tomorrow.

I was in the same boat and they were going to do one at 6 weeks, but the OB said that you cannot see the heartbeat till 7 weeks and even though moms know that going in if they get one sooner..that is just another thing to worry about. So I had one at 8 weeks...now I am having one in 2 weeks which I will be 18 weeks.
