Another Trip to the ER........
OK.....we have returned from yet another trip to the ER.....
I was changing Anushkas diaper and noticed that she had blood......not old blood, but bright red blood. Not much, but blood shouldn't be coming from there......
So, we go over to the ER and they do Xrays. Then the nurse comes in and tells us that the doctor has requested lab work and an IV........Anushka is eating normally, peeing normally and pooping normally. I understand the labs, but an IV. Then the nurse goes on to explain that if the put the IV in., there is no need to stick her twice, etc, etc. We decided to let them do it......her daddy stayed with her, while I was in the hallway crying. She let out a horrible scream.....something like I have never heard before. They drew the labs and got her fixed up. Daddy picked her back up and she calmed down.
About 3 hours later, I catch the dr in the hallway. Everthing has come back normal, but they are calling a peds consult to just to look at her. The peds resident comes in and starts to check her over. As luck would have it, she began pooping. (Thank goodness). He said that the blood was coming from her bunghole........she was so raw, the dr showed me. Between the formula and the Zantac her poop was getting harder and she was having a hard time going. They told us to immediately go back to what we were doing prior to the Zantac. Which was regular Enfamil formula and feeding on demand.
We have to follow up with the pediatrician on Monday, but no matter what is said, I know my baby and know what works for her. I have been trying to do what the doctors say, but every baby is different and only her daddy and I know what works for her.,,,,,,
Thanks for listening!

I know you had said she has reflux and some reflux babies have a milk protein and/or soy intolerance. Here is an online quiz you can take to see if she has the symptoms because you may want to bring it up to her doctor. Amber has reflux and was on nutramigen and zantac for 2 weeks then had a stool with visible blood. They can have blood in thier stool that is not visible too. Anyhow our formula was switched to neocate which is even more hypo allergenic than nutramigen and she has done well on it and she is on prevacid now. Good luck figuring things out.

Sneaking a little prune juice into her formula would work well also. Just a teaspoon 1-2 times a day. They don't notice it at all and it really helps soften things up. It works well to buy a bottle or organic prune juice and then measure a few ounces out into a bunch of breast milk storage bags and freeze it. That way you can defrost as needed and the whole bottle won't get old while you're using a small amount at a time.
Also, I don't know what diaper cream you're using, but Rowan had rawness of his rectum initially until i switched to Dr. Smith's.
The acid reducers can increase constipation, so it is something you have to be vigilant about.

Thanks again everyone for the support and well wishes. Anushka is actually doing 1000 times better since we change back to what we were doing. I know she still has the reflux, and needs to be treated for it, but we have to explore other options. She is sleeping and eating like a champ, and her fussiness has gone away.
We see our regular pediatrician on Wednesday. Anushka is still having the orange/redddish brown mucus, but I am relieved that it is normal. I will show the dr on Wednesday just to make sure. How long does that last??
Thanks again!!
