Getting ready for 1st insemination next month!

Hi Everyone!

This is my 1st time on this board.  I had my RNY almost 14 months ago.  At my 1 year checkup, my surgeon told me that I could start inseminating in my Nov cycle because my OBGYN wants me to get pregnant sooner rather than later because I just turned 40 on Aug 3rd.  So I'm about 5 weeks away from my first insemination.  I say insemination because my partner is a woman.  We've picked out our sperm donor and are going to try it on our own (as natural as 2 women can do it w/a medical syringe.)  I'm really healthy now (thanks to the best decision of my life w/my RNY) and am ovulating like clockwork which is totally new to me since my entire period life I was NEVER regular.  My OBGYN did tests on me a couple months ago to check the viability of my eggs and they are all good.  I've been taking my basal temp for 4 months now, prenatals and 5 mg of folic acid daily for about 6 months.  We're ready to go!

OK... so my only concern is the how long will it take for me to get pg?  My OBGYN suggested we try for up to 3 cycles before sending me to a fertility clinic for possible IVF.  We REEEEEEEEEEALLY want to get pregnant now... like really now.  And I want to be patient and focused on getting pregnant now at the same time.

Suggestions anyone?  Thoughts?

I am very excited for you!! I am married to a women also and I have been wanting to have a baby... but I know that I am not ready we just got married and it is too soon from surgery....

Any way I would love to hear updates about your progress. I have someone thoughts about the whole process over what I would want to do and my wife and I discussed trying insemination first just the way you are. But like you I would be scared that it wouldnt work so I wondered if I should just take a jump in and do either IUI or IVF first.

I am very excited for you!! Good Luck with it all

Thanks!  Good to know I'm not the only les on here.   My fiance just moved in with me (moved down from Portland to San Jose) and to some we're moving at lighten speeds.  But we've been dating for 18 months.  And my OBGYN says my bio clock is booming (ticking very loudly!)  So we're moving forward now and super excited about it.

You on facebook?  I am... www.facebook.com/musicmaryn

Yes I am on facebook, you can find me under Kristi Prosser CT. But ill look you up!

Well I am very happy for you two... My sister in law is due Nov 4th I am so excited for her and it makes me want a baby that much more. I give us 1 year to be out of our apartment in a house and then another year to start trying. By then my wife will be a certified public accountant so we will be comfortable to start trying becuase as we all know it can get very $$.

Oh yeah.  Jill and I are moving into a house this weekend.  We both have good jobs, but IVF can cost upwards of $15k!  UGH!  We REEEEEEEEEEALLY want to get pg on our own.

Me too!!! We are on round 2 and I was put on clomid from the get go because my cycles were sooooooo long and ovulation was too hard to pinpoint. Are you using a known donor or a frozen one?? Just curious. We have a known donor and I think that's helpful because we can inseminate 3-4 times every cycle. My OB said if I'm not pregnant by January she'll run some tests. I'm only 32 so she wants us to try for a bit. I'm right there with you on the NOW part. Get ready for living your life in 2 week sections. The 2WW is the hardest so far! We aren't really sharing the process with our families because ... What if it doesn't happen? We want it to be a suprise because for my side it'll be the first grandchild. AND my stepmom would ask too many questions!!!! If this round doesn't work for us, the next one will be in about 5 weeks! Good luck!!! You'll love this board!!! I've seen you on the LGBT board too!

We're using a known donor that will sign his rights away so my gf can legally adopt the baby. Yay!  And we too are keeping it under wraps with the fam until i'm preggers.  My fam is like "wait for a baby cuz you two are just moving in together... blah blah blah"  Yeah... i can't wait... i don't want to wait.... heck i'd do it solo if my gf and i weren't together.  I'm 40... time to get this rolling already!
