Baby Fever!!

I am only 8 months out since my lab band surgery and I have serious baby fever. I have lost a little over 60 lbs since my surgery and I still have about another 40 to go to be at my goal but I am where my GYN told me she would at least want me to be prior to trying to get pregnant. I read a lot that you should wait 12-18 months. I know I should try to reach my goal first but I am so ready to start trying, not that I would get pregnant right out of the gate but would it be bad to start trying? Just looking for experience from others but I will consult my surgeon first. Thanks!

I am right there with you with baby fever!! I have always been a very active aunt. My niece who is 4 now I play a major role in her life as my sister was a single mother and the father did not want to be around. I was there from the moment she got pregnant, the labor and delivery, and the first few years of her life it was me and my sister taking care of her. When she turned two my sister found someone and I also found someone. In the past two years I havent needed to be that parenting figure that I was. I am now just Auntie Kristi. I have also gotten married and both my spouse and I are ready. We have a total of 7 nieces and nephews welcoming one more little one to this world on 11/4 and I find myself a little envious... I want a baby. But I also know it is VERY early after marriage (just married on September 18th) and too soon out of surgery. We have made plans though we are saving to buy a house for next year and spouse will graduate with within the year with BA degree after we are stable in the new house look out we will be trying!!! I know it didnt answer your question just wanted to chime in on the baby fever lol

Well congrats on your marriage and on your surgery! What an amazing year you have had! I just thought I would write this post today because this is how I have been feeling. I also am an aunt and I had my niece last weekend and it has really made me want to start trying. My husband and I have been married 3 1/2 years and I am so ready. Other than the weight issue everything else is falling into place. Congrats again to you and your husband! And good luck on your journey! :)Also, thanks for the reply!

I don't want to sound rude but even though women have gotten pregnant early out and had successful pregnancies they tell us to wait for a reason.  A few more months is worth the wait to have as healthy of a pregnancy as possible.  Why not start tracking your cycle for the next few months so that when you get to 12+ months you will know your ovulation patterns and maybe you will get pregnant quickly.

Your not being rude at all. Just honest! I know that I need to wait and I am going to but just wanted to get some responses from others. I would start tracking my cycles but I am on birth control and only have a period every 3 months so I won't know until I actually stop that all together. Thanks for your reply. I just need some encouragement to wait I guess. :)

I am so excited for you that things have all fallen into place and you are ready for a baby.  I totally understand the baby fever and you are really not alone.  I have a 4 month old right now and I have serious baby fever again.  Good luck!!

60 pounds is an awesome start. With every pound you lose you lower your risk of developing obesity-related complications during pregnancy. So with that in mind, it might be better to get closer to your goal weight first. I have about 25 pounds to my goal (had lap-band 22 months ago) and I can't even imagine how hard pregnancy would be on my body at my prior weight. It's no picnic as it is!

In the meantime, you may want to talk to your doctor about going off your birth control so that you can get it out of your system and start with a nice clean slate when you're ready to start trying.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I am 29 and one of the main reasons other then my health to have my weight loss surgery was to be able to have a family.  I had my banding last June. I went off of my birth control the same month because I was on it for 10 years and was tired of taking it. I had normal cycles for awhile and then in April my cycles got really offhand. I was having my periods every 2 weeks. It is now a 21 day cycle. I was told by my gynecologist and my surgeon that this would happen since hormones are stored in fat cells.
I'm scheduled for an ultra sound tomorrow to make sure that everything is okay in there. My family doctor just wants to make sure.
I put an app on my iphone that keeps track of my period and tells me when I am ovulating and fertile. Makes it a little easier. I know it is going to take patience as well :-)

Well, you only have another 4 months (?) to go before you start trying? It will go quick, with the holidays and all occupying your time. You can start using that time now, to track your cycles on a calendar, and read up on TTC and pregnancy. I have a copy of What to epect before you are expecting" and it was pretty useful. Also, start taking extra folic acid now. Just think of these months as "preparing" yourself to get pregnant.
