This will be my second child, but when I had my daughter 4 years ago I was about 350 pounds, so I have lost a lot of weight since then, and my hormones are more in check. When I had my daughter I never got my milk, and I didn't have the painful engourged breasts people are always saying you get a couple days after delivery. I really want to try to breastfeed this baby, but I don't know if the same thing will happen or not. I want to be prepared and buy a breast pump, but on the other hand I don't want to waste my money if I am no going to be able to use it? I was thinking of renting one to start with and see how it goes from there? Has anyone rented one before?

I think renting is a good idea. The good pumps are so expensive that it wouldn't be worth it to get one until you know you can use it. I know people who have rented and said it was pretty easy to do. Also, the hospital might give you a hand pump (you may have to ask for it, but I bet they'd give you one if you're willing to ask). I really prefer my hand pump anyway. I'm not sure why, but I like using it better than the electric on.

Good luck! I hope your milk comes in for your little one. But don't be surprised if it doesn't. The fact that it didn't come in before could've been for reasons other than your weight. Some very thin women are unable to BF and I know tons of very overweight women who can. I hope you can for this one though!

Thanks so much! I am trying not to stress about it, and we'll just see what happens.
