I called the Dr. but they're not open.

I was at my MIL's house today and she has a chicken coup.  Some family friends children were over and they were in the chicken coup.  They fed the chickens (put food in their bowls) and picked up their eggs.  The one girl ran out and touched Sage's arm, she had long sleeves on.  I asked her if she could wash her hands before she touched the baby.

Could Sage get salmonella from this??  I wiped her down with baby wipes maybe 20 minutes later because we weren't near any at the time.  The only way to get salmonella is from their feces and if the chickens have the disease.  The eggs were clean (no poop on them) and they only touched the chickens gate.  Maybe I am over reacting.  But does anyone know if this contact could get her sick??

My MIL didn't seem worried as nothing they touched had poop on it.  Also my MIL has had these chickens for years and years and I've eaten may of their eggs, over easy and have never gotten sick.

I am keeping an eye out for anything weird.  Does anyone know anything about this??

Thank you! I know I am the biggest worry wart!

I'd say the chances of her getting anything are very minimal.  Maybeif they had fresh poo on their hands, touched Sage's shirt sleeve and then Sage stuck that in her mouth, you might have more worries.

Just keep an eye on her and get her to the dr if she starts a fever or something...but I think she'll be fine.

I grew up on a farm and I would have to say that it is a slim to none chance of that happening.  If by chance it does, there's really nothing you can do at this point bu****ch Sage.  A dr won't be able to help unless theres symptoms.  Sorry you are having to worry over this!

thanks ladies.  She seems fine.  I am just super uber paranoid about things like that.  My aunt heather, who Sage was named after (her middle name) was 2 and she was at a farm and was playing in a duck pond, which i know is not the same as accidentally getting touched with maybe dirty chicken hands.  anyway she developed e coli and had a fever so high it damaged her kidney and she died from complications from that event at age 22.

see why I am paranoid lol

I would kindly suggest you lighten up or you are going to have a l.o.n.g 18 years raising your daughter, that level of worry is just plain silly.  And this advice is coming from a worrier :)

God Bless! Jen
