Feeding Help!

Hi everyone!

I had to take a couple of minutes to post because I don't know what I am doing wrong.....

Anushka has acid reflux.  The dr said no more than 3 ounces every three hours.  During the day, I am lucky to get her to take 1.5 to 2 ounces.  If she is asleep, she misses feeds because I can't wake her to eat.  (possibly one feeding a day) I have even stripped her down to jolt her awake - nothing works! Then at night, all she wants to do is eat.  She ate about 6 ounces between 7pm and midnight last night.  She slept for about 6 hours after that, but I know that is too much.

Then every morning when I feed hr between 9 and 10, she throws up.  This is the only time she throws up......no other time during the day or night.

They will not put her on meds for reflux until she is at least two months old.  Is this normal for reflux babies??  Am I doing something wrong?  I just don't want any long term health issues for her because I couldn't get the feeding right.....

Thanks for the help!!

imo- if shes hungry feed her... babies this young dont eat just to eat... it sounds like she might have her days and nights mixed up... try to keep her away during the day... keep the house very bright and loud.. open all the blinds... and at night dark and quiet...

Thanks, Lexa.....I will try that.  Never thought about days and nights being mixed up.

Also, prop her up a little while she sleeps, should help her reflux. Does she have a sleep positioner? They have elevated ones...

Both of my boys had GERD/ Acid Reflux. They were on reglan and zantac pretty much since birth and both were preemies, one was 4lbs and one was 3lbs. I don't know why they said she can't be on anything. I would get a 2nd opinion.
On another note, if you google GERD, you will find a ton of helpful tips. The most important thing is not to let her eat too much at a time because it can come up and that burns when it does, it is like throwing up before surgery when you have acid with it. My son almost needed esophageal surgery because he threw up so much he was ruining his lining in his esophagus. It is important to also keep her upright for 30 minutes after she eats and burp frequently. Sitting up in a swing, in an infant seat, or at an incline in the crib helps. I also started giving my 1st son room temp milk b/c the warm milk was not helping, and by the time he was 5 months old he insisted on having cold milk because it was soothing. The meds helped a lot too. My 2nd son threw up 24/7. I would litterally change us both about 5/10 times a day he threw up so much and it would be ALL over me and ALL over him and the floor or couch. I breastfed him and he still threw up that much, with meds. Sometimes they just have to outgrow it. My first son outgrew it by 6 months my 2nd by a year.

Thanks guys!

the drr told me to use a Boppy pillow to prop her up in her bassinet and crib.  I don't trust it in the crib, so I prop her up in bed with me at night to sleep....bad I know, but I don't want her smothering in her crib.  (I feel her every move at night)  I tried the sleep positioner, but she hated it........the only time she has cried unconsolably.  I bought a small travel pillow to prop her up on the changing table.

I try to keep her upright for 15 minutes after feeding, but I will change it to 30 after reading the posts.

Thanks again!!  All the advice is wonderful and very helpful!!

30 minutes for sure, and a crib wedge that elevates the crib mattress is your best bet for the crib, not the boppy. Rowan didn't have real severe reflux, but I know he was on meds for it sooner than 2 months, I think he grew out of it around 4-5 months.
