I was wondering has anyone used Cloth Diapers? And where have you seen them to buy? What brand is good to buy? Do they come in different sizes? I was thinking of using cloth diapers to save on money but this is first baby and I am clueless when it comes to cloth diapers. Any information would be good. Thanks.

I am lazy when it comes to changing diapers, I chose disposable but I did see some on Diapers.com

The cloth diapers now are not close to the same thing they use to be either, but I am not into the cleaning poop from a butt and then from the diaper! Once is good enough for me.

LOL yeah very true. I am just trying to figure out the cheapest way for us to do it cause Hubby is the only one working and just one income is hard enough without a baby in the pic. We are struggling as it is right now without having a baby around. So I could only imagine what it would be like when we do have the baby around. I am home all the time and do not work and if i have to do it then i have to.

I cloth diaper my twins. It's a HUGE money saver and honestly only adds about 1-2 extra loads of laundry each week.

I use BumGenius one size diapers that fit from newborn to potty-training age. The best part is #3 will also be able to use the same diapers his sisters use so I won't have to buy more/different sizes.

Not only are cloth diapers good for the environment, they're also easy on my pocketbook and look super cute with all the different colors and patterns available!

You can always try one of the "try before you buy programs" like this one: http://www.jilliansdrawers.com/products/clothdiapers/tryclothfor10/tryclothfor10

It ends up costing $10 if you decide you don't like them, and you can try all the major brands.

Yeah I seen you could get those at Babies R Us those BumGenius. Thats why I asked if anyone has used them because I seen it says one size but I have no idea lol.

Ooh Okay I will def look into that try before I buy. Yeah I knew it would def up the laundry of course. And sad thing Is I have to pay for my laundry too. LOL. So either way Im paying for something. However...a load of laundry is 3 bucks compared to like 10 dollars for a pack of diapers that you might buy twice a week. When I could buy lots of cloth diapers and do a big load at once. Every other day. How many did you purchase and how often did you watch them? I seen you said about 2-3 loads more a week. I normally do my wash once a week. So I am trying to figure out if I did wash twice a week how many cloth diapers would I need to be able to that.

We only use cloth, I have not bought or used a disposbale since little man was 4 months old (he is now 13 months, so almost a year). I use a little bit of everything depending on what is going on. We use hybrid diapers (you can google GroVia to see what those are), pocket diapers like the BG 4.0's that where mentioned above and good old fashioned prefolds and covers. The "try it" program that was posted above is awsome, gives you a good idea of how each system works and how it will work for you before you spend a whole bunch of money on something you don't like. You can also google diaper shops in your area, there are more then you would think!

And about the poop, I always have to laugh when people say they don't want to "deal" with poop when it comes to cloth diapers, but in reality poop is something you are going to have to deal with no matter what. Be it cleaning it out of clothing b/c a disposable diaper leaked or blew out (and believe me, that happens A LOT) or dumping it off a cloth diaper into the toilet.

Also, another thing people fail to remember is that poop is supposed to be dumped into the toilet from DISPOSABLE diapers as well as cloth, as it is illegal in most places to dump human waste (and pet waste) into the trash. Unfortunatly that is not enforced in most place, but it's true.

I typed up a whole PM to another mama about every kind of cloth diaper that is offered, as well as wash routines and info on detergents, if you want to read it just let me know and I will forward it to you.

Yes I would love information on the whole cloth diaper info. That is why i asked to see if anyone else has done this before and has better information on how to use them and things like that. i am all new to this and I def want to give cloth diapers a try. Not only do I want to do it to save money but also for th environment too. I have started a college degree like 2 years ago and took a science course just last year and its amazing at what you learn about the earth and environment. Just shocked me seriously. So now I am all about recycling and all of that good clean green stuff.

I have one of these 3 bin garbage things at my house cause my state does the whole recycling bit as a law and if they find recyclables in your garbage you get fined. I love that they at least make the garbage cans like that so you can separate plastic, cans, and paper. I also do the whole glass and waste basket too. Guess you can say me and hubby both are neat freaks and are well organized as much as we can be. My husband is worse than ME LOL. Im always telling him to relax on cleaning the house cause hes always cleaning something. We also have 3 cats and that is one of the hardest things in the world to try and not have so much litter and waste from them. I want to invest in one of them cat genie things that hooks up to your toilet but we live in an apartment complex and not sure how well those things actually work and would not want to ruin the septic system for everyone LOL.

But yes def would love the forward from you on cloth diapers!

Thanks,

Dee.

We've decided to give G-Diapers a shot. I like them because they're flushable, or if you decide to throw them away, they biodegrade faster than a disposable. I haven't actually USED them yet, and I've heard mixed reviews, but I thought I would give them a try. They're considered a "hybrid" diaper because they have a reusable/washable diaper shell, and then the liner is the part that gets flushed or thrown away.

I was considering cloth, but the thought of dunking poop and then having to throw a soggy diaper in a pail to sit before I wa**** or have a diaper service pick it up was a real turn-off for me. I have a nose like a bloodhound and I can't imagine having a bunch of sodden diapers just sitting around.

People always assume that cloth smells, but the truth is it smells FAR less then disposables b/c you get rid of most of the waste. Unless you plan to wrap each disposable individually or take it right out of the house after every change, you are going to have far more smell that way. I have enough diapers to go without washing for a week (although I never have, I always wash every three days) and I never have a diaper smell in the house, ever.

It's not the waste that bothers me as much as the wet cloth/mildew smell. I can't even stand to use a clean bath towel twice. I have a much more sensitive nose than most people... I always have. It should make parenthood LOTS of fun.

We live in a small condo where "fragrances" are tough to get away from, lol. Thankfully the dumpster enclosure is like 30 steps from the house.

I'd like to try a variety of cloth/hybrid diapers to see which ones I like best. After all, nothing is "one size fits all" when it comes to stuff like that. I've got friends who swear by Huggies and others who prefer Pampers, and vice-versa. It just depends on your baby and your preference. My only hesitation with buying online versus in a store is that if you run out, you have to wait for your order to ship. I'd much rather be able to run to Target and pick up some G-Diapers if they end up working well.
