Yolk sac, no fetal pole??

I have a question. I am trying not to worry, but it's hard. I had some cramping that seemed a little more intense than usual so I went to the ER. There was no blood or anything so that is a good sign and they didn't seem to concerned about that. While I was there they did an ultrasound and they said I measured at 6 weeks o days (which is exactly the day that my last period began). Anyway, in the ultrasound they saw the yolk sac but no fetal pole. The tech said that they can usually see it by this point so I was very worried, but the doctor came in and wasn't worried, saying it's not uncommon for the fetal pole not to be detected at this point. The machine to measure my HCG levels was down so I have to wait until my OB appointment this Friday. I was wondering if anyone has any input on this situation. Am I worrying over nothing or should I be able to see the baby at this point? I am a late ovulator and didn't ovulate, I believe, until the 11th of September. ( I took clomid, so my fertility specialist had me taking those ovulation predictor tests) Also my temp was still elevated so the triage nurse said that is a good sign. I am just so worried...I have gone through a miscarriage and I really don't want to go through it again!

With this pregnancy, I went in for my first ultrasound at what I thought was 8 wks. All they could see on the ultrasound was a gestational sac measuring 6wk4days. No heartbeat, no yolk sac, no fetal pole. I was positive about my LMP date and it completely freaked me out, but my OB was very calm and told me to try to relax.

when I went back 2 weeks later, there was a bouncing embryo dancing around on the ultrasound.

At this point, I wouln't worry. 6wk is way too early to see anything, especially if you think you may have ovulated late this month.

((hugs))

Do not worry. I went in for ultrasounds 3 times from 4-6.5 weeks. They were making me paranoid about what should or shouldn't be there. Plus, they are not even supposed to share the info with you until the Dr looks at the report. Early ultrasounds can cause a lot of anxiety. I wouldn't even go bac****il week 8, if they do send you.

Thanks, gosh they really do cause a lot of anxiety. I am actually afraid to get another ultrasound instead of looking forward to it like I should be.... Oh well, I am just going to keep the faith! Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it!

I am not in yours shoes I am sorry but I am wishing you well for the duration of your pregnancy. Try to relax and not worry. I know that is easier said than done though.

I had an ultrasound done a week ago and the Dr. Said I was about 4.5 weeks along.  According to my LMP I should have been 5.5 weeks.  The ultrasound did not show anything either.  Dr. said it was way to early.  I have been having cramps for couple of weeks now and am very concerned.  I can't imagine these cramps, which feel exactly like the cramps I get before my period, are normal; but that's what I have been told.  In the end there is nothing that can be done if the cramps are a sign that something is not right.  My pregnancy was not planned so just as that was something out of my control so is this.  Good luck to you.

Cramping is very normal at this stage. I had it and some bleeding and here I am 25 weeks into it! (not without a few gray hairs though...lol- this baby dust stuff is unnerving!). My RE made sure to let me know that's all very typical.

Can you call your RE and see if he can get you in? His sono machinery is going to be better than what the ER had. I would explain what happened and that you'd like a follow-up. Not just for a good sono but to double check that the cramping is normal at this point. I was able to see the baby (the size of a grain of rice) at 5 weeks. I also heard the heartbeat as well. RE's want us to get pregnant and keep us that way. He would have a bigger vested interest than the ER who is just there to take care of YOU in case of an emergency.

Good luck! I hope everything is well and that you are on your way to an uneventful 34 more weeks!
