There are less permanant things you could do. Like an IUD and birthcontrol. Just make sure that you are sure about your decision... it's a hard one, sometimes impossible to take back.

While the fear of gaining weight is a rational one that we all face, RNY is not a fix it all. In order to be successful you must learn to eat better and live healthier. If you do that properly you don't gain too much weight with pregnancy and you still have your tool to help you loose it after the baby.

Just weigh all of you options before you take the plunge.

I understand the not wanting to gain weight and you are not selfish.  I was 7 months out when I got pregnant with my son in 2006 and was terrified of gaining too much but only ended up gaining 9lbs.  This time I was 4 1/2 years out of surgery and was really scared of gaining too much and now at 35 weeks I am still 1 lb less than where I started.

My concern with you tying your tubes now is that you might want another one in a year or two.  Many women come on here wanting another one all of a sudden when they are not even to goal yet or even through the 18month wait.  I would recommend a Mirena IUD that is good for 5 years and then you have the option of having another if you want.  Also I wouldn't recommend getting pregnant early out, my birth control failed and my first pregancy was much harder b/c I couldn't maintain hydration.

Good luck with your decision.

You probably wouldn't gain all the weight back.   I gained 20 pounds with my first pregnancy and 6 pounds with my second (both were post op).  Today I weigh less than I did before either pregnancy.

I had my tubes tied after my 2nd c-section.   I have no regrets, but I knew my family was complete.  Also, my Dr. advised me not have anymore kids.

I agree with the other poster that there are other ways of preventing pregnancy.   You need to be 100 % sure you don't want anymore children before doing something so permanent.

Good luck with your surgery!
