Are you all considered High-Risk too???

Was informed at my 16 week appointment by my midwife that I'd be seeing the doctor of her practice from now on because now I'm considered high-risk because of my bypass.

Anyone else?

I've been here since 2002, I just like to pretend I am NEW!

Yep, same here but when I met with the high risk ob/gyn, he said he wasn't worried. He told me to go to the ER if I have any "strange" abdominal pains because the RNY put me at a high risk for a bowel obstruction - made worse by my uterus expanding and pushing - and to check my blood sugar two hours after eating a meal twice a week to make sure I don't get gestational diabetes. I also won't have to do the glucose test because he doesn't want to cause dumping.

I was not considered high risk because of bypass. I had to have a few extra labs done here and there, and they were worried about me losing weight, but other than that I have done great. I also did do the glucose test. My doc just ran an A1C test, and I was fine.  Good Luck on your pregnancy!

I kinda was. I only had to see the high risk OB for growth ultrasounds. He just wanted to make sure Punkin was growing like it should. Other than that I didn't have to do anything different. I do know the midwives at my OB office wouldn't see me because of that and a few otehr issues.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Have you had nutritional or vitamin/mineral problems?  If you still want a midwife you have plenty of time to switch and find a new provider.  I'm seeing midwives who consult with a perinatologist or OB as necessary, and I managed not to get risked out even though I had a DS a couple years ago.

I am considered high risk due to the surgery, but it is just so they can watch the growth. I was also informed by my high risk doctor that later on once they have monitored and clear everything as OK, they may allow me to see a midwife as well and I could have a natural birth. That is what I want!

I am on my second pregnancy with my DD being 8 months old and I haven't been considered high risk in either pregnancy.  I do get my iron levels checked more often during pregnancy but that is on my own and not at the urging of the doctor.
