Morning sickness ???
So now that I have a pouch instead of a my pre RNY stomach, is morning sickness going to be better or still the same as it was before surgery? I am 6 weeks along and getting some nausea but not like it had been in the past. Do our smaller capacities help us since we cannot produce so much acid and there isn't the large reseviour for it all to collect in?
With the morning sickness I had, I felt it was worse because my "pouch" was upset and I felt the need to throw up, but I never could! I have the same thing when I get the flu. I have had 3 different flu bugs sense my RNY and I just cannot throw up, which is bad because sometimes you feel relief after. It all depends on how you see it. That is me though, I don't know about others. It was a rough patch.
Before RNY, I suffered from hyperemesis with my pregnancies, so bad that I spent a majority of the time in the hospital for dehydration. The volume I could vomit was significant. Logically speaking, when I envision my lil ol pouch now, I don't see how that is going to be possible. At least, I hope it isn't! I have not yet had the flu. The only time I had vomiting post RNY was when I developed a Peterson's Hernia on my one year surgeriversary. I celebrated that one year mark in the hospitla having surgery to resect my bowels and remove a massive blockage.
As for true nausea, I haven't had it in any form compared to how I had it pre RNY. So, now I am left wondering how this is going to proceed. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be like it has been in the past.

I have to admit that morning sickness sucked bad!!!
Since us RNY'ers have NO bile, we have no way of throwing up. I know there are a few people out there who can (I don't know why) but I am not capable of it.
With that said, I stayed in a constant state of nausea and I hated it!!!
But I did notice that when I ate that usually brought it on stronger.
I'm truly hoping that now since I am officially 2nd trimester as of yesterday that it will subside...but I won't hold my breath on it.
Just my 2cents worth.
Congrats and good luck!!!!!!!

my morning sickness was horabale. i felt like i had to throw up all the time only thing i could eat was crackers and gatorade if i tried eating more normale meals they would come right back up. being almost 20 weeks thats all gone away and im happy. this is my first pregnancy so i dont know if it would have been the same b4 rny.
I had hyperemisis and was miserable. I wasn't throwing up really, just not able to drink or eat anything. When I did throw up it was more like just bringing up what I just ate. No acid or anything. (Sorry if that was TMI) I did have horrible dry heaves where my eyes would jus****er from the effort to throw up. Hope this time around is better than last. Hyperemisis really sucks!

I know this is not much of an answer, but I think everyone is different and then every pregnancy is different.
But I had RNY in 2005 and am currently pregnant with my first. I didn't have much if any morning sickness--just some dizzyness after standing too long within the first 12 weeks or so. That and major tiredness!!
After my baby started causing me to feel full all the time, I would feel like throwing up just because I felt too full after eating. But there was no nausea.
Don't know the answer...but I'm several years further out than you and that may make a difference, not sure.
Either way, best wishes to you!

I am not sure if I can answer this question to what you would want to hear. However...I had not been pregnant before my RNY stomach. I do know that morning sickness has the best of me since being pregnant. I am 18 weeks and thought I was in the clear cause I had not been sick in two weeks...well the last two days I have been dry heaven like crazy.
As far as throwing up anything well seems impossible...unless I just ate something or drank something. If my stomach does not like what I just had..Ill instantly puke it back up. Groossss! Normally though...which stinks...I will be dry heaven all day long and want to puke up something but instead nothing comes up.
Basically I call this me gaggin all day long and its horrible. I am hoping that it will go away however...I do not see that happening considering Im just a year and 3 months out of surgery and my stomach is still small. When I do not eat something I start gaggin..so I am always eating every 2 hours..and still sometimes get sick.
I am just one of the lucky ones who is getting sick all the time and I believe that this is going to last my whole pregnancy. I could hope that it will not last...but I have heard with RNY'ers that morning sickness subsides but comes back towards the end because of the baby or your organs pushing on your stomach making it easier for you to get sick. Wish you the best of luck and hopes that you do not get morning sickness horrible. I started having morning sickness at 7 weeks pregnant and has not stopped.
