Off topic- Scary afternoon
Well, after enjoying a semi-quiet day out to lunch at the Olive Garden with a friend, I came home and needless to say it became a scary afternoon. My stepdaughters all go to the elementary school down the road from our house. About 230, I got a text from my cousin, who works for the Myrtle Beach PD, saying that there was a shooting at the high school and the elementary school is right next to the high school. I paced and paced for about an hour before we finally got some good news. The incident was controlled within a matter of minutes and a male juvenile was in custody for shooting an student resources officer. My children got home from school over an hour and a half late finally and my nerves settled. I have to say I was literally sick to mystomach when I heard the news. Why are school shootings becoming the way students are handling issues in school??? It's absoloutely awful and times have so changed. I'm just happy to report all 3 girls came home not even knowing what had happened and panic free. I, on the other hand, was quite panicked til I saw their faces and gave them all a BIG hug!! Scary things like this are just so hard to hear...thankfully in this situation the officer is ok and has been released and the police did a terrific job to isolate the incident and get the rest of the students and children next store home safely :)
I'm glad things turned out OK. It's scary knowing we can't always be there to protect the children we love. I remember a few years ago, my sister called to tell me that there had been a shooting at her children's school. One of the teacher's ex came to the school and walked in and shot her. Fortunately, because of all the shootings that have occurred over the last few years across the U.S., the teachers were able to quickly respond & gathered all the kids in rooms and locked the classroom doors, so he wasn't able to get near any of the students. I believe the teacher who was shot died...but the tragedy could have been so much more. The ex holed himself up inside the school for 3-4 hours before coming out - and I think (trying to remember the details) that he ended up being killed by the police too.
Give the kids an extra hug...and then take a deep breath and try to let some of that stress out.

Wow that is scary!! Glad things are ok. That is why I have been considering homeschooling my child. I have always said that before I even got pregnant that I was going to have my kids be home schooled because of how crazy things are these days in schools. I could not imagine going through anything like that.
Thanks ladies! It was by far one of the most nerve wracking situations I've had to deal with in a long time. The sad part about it was that this whole thing was planned. They managed to find some bomb making devices in the school also after discovering that the student, who is 15, had planned this for quite some time. He had it planned out and has been researching exactly how long it would take for the police to come because he even equipped himself with several pipe bombs throughout the school. Fortunately, his plan backfired when he was unable to wound the officer severly and the officer apprehended him.
Dee..I would love to say that I would love to home school, but after researching it and with 3 already in the public school system I just don't think it would be best for us. I'm in no way against home schooling...especially since I've seen some of the tests and things they use to teach! I just don;t think I'm cut out for that type of schooling myself. I think it might be different with just one, but not with 3 already and 1 on the way! I would loose my mind LOL
