I have a tooth that I know needs a root canal and I really am putting it off due to the cost.  However..its killing me..especially when I bite down.  I called the dentist and of coarse he cannot get me in until the end of the week...but gave me percocet for the pain..the baby ones...I did tell him that I am pregnant and he said that should not be an issue...I have not taken any yet..what do all of you think?  I am 12 weeks today!

I can't answer on the percocet question, but I totally feel your pain on the toothache.  I had to have a tooth pulled when I was 14 weeks pregnant.  The dentist wanted me to wait until I was out of my first trimester to have it done.  Longest 2 weeks of my life in pain!

I've not had any experience with this myself, however one of my best friends went into the ER for some back pain...which turned out to be a urinary tract infection. They put her on percs as well and it was at a lower dose because they found out during her visit that she was 8 weeks pregnant and she took what was prescribed to her and didn't have any problems. Her little girls is now 2yo and thriving...I think that as long as it's at a lower dose you should be ok. If you don't feel 100% safe about it I would say call your OB in the am and just get some clarifications. Good luck cus I know ALL about tooth pain and how horrific and torturous it can be!!!

I have a toothache as I type.  At first I thought I was battling tension migraines, but i incidently felt my gums and noticed they are swollen where my wisedom tooth is to come in.  Thank God I just signed up for dental insurance, but it doent go into affect unti Oct 1st.  So for the meantime, I have to deal with the pain. This pain is bad...real bad! While we all thought/think its tension headaches, I have been to the ER twice with morphine/phenergen shots and been prescribed 5 pills of a low dose pain killer.  Those did the stop the pain, but...pain is pain and this tooth needs to come out!  I dont know if I will be able to have surgery, but I do know one thing, I need pain meds for this crap.  I have literally stopped working and dont go out during the day due to the mgraines.  Since I am out of the pills and the low dose was not really helping anyways, I am going to get something stronger until Oct 1st.

Thanks for your post.  I heard toothaches/gum aches were pretty common, but dang if they dont bother me.

Hope my experience helps.  Basically what I am saying is the pain killer, low dose, should be ok if prescribed by a doc.  the good out weighs the bad right now.
