Unhappy Baby
What about switching to a bottle that help with air if you aren't already. I swear by Dr. Browns, they are a pain to wash all the parts but it helped so much with my sons fussiness. Both my kids also had to drink nutragamin formula which is way expensive but with the combo of that and the bottles it was like a new kid.
Rowan's biggest symptom of acid reflux was that he would turn red and arch his back during feedings.
Also, honestly, if you haven'****ch "the Happiest Baby on The Block" dvd, get it now and watch it. Some babies need swaddle plus paci plus jiggling all at once to fully calm down. Once you get the hang of the techniques, it will save your sanity.

Mom to two of the cutest boys on earth.
First- you are an AMAZING mom! There is nothing wrong with you- you are doing everything you possibly can.
Second- my now 18 yr old went through the same stuff. At the time her pediatrician said that some babies just colic and she will outgrow it. They had just invented Mylicon drops and they worked about half the time. I would have literally given them everything I owned if they charged me that much for them. The other half of the time she just wept and I held her and felt like a failure at being a mom. I remember being so aggravated that I couldn't do anything to help. She was breastfed so it wasn't a formula issue, but she was still very sensitive nonetheless. If I ate beans, onions, tomatoes or a host of other things she would scream like someone was killing her. It was awful. There were so many foods that I took out of my diet during the time. Whenever I needed to feed formula she would throw it all up. Eventually I found that Carnation Good Start was the only one she could tolerate. Later I tried to move her up to the second stage of the Carnation and again it caused so much irritation that she just stayed on the Good Start until she was old enough to try milk. Somehow milk didn't bother her.
Just remember that he will outgrow this! You are being proactive and I'm sure there is a good answer out there (better than my pediatrician told me 18yrs ago). Good luck! And....don't feel guilty if you need to hand him off to dad sometimes. I always felt horrible when I'd give her to her dad when she was screaming like a banshee. I felt as a mom that I should be the one with all the answers. Total nonsense! Sometimes the best "answer" was being able to take a break from it and not beating myself up over it.
BTW- my daughter is a perfectly healthy college student now and can even eat college cafeteria food (and digest it!) lol. There is hope- and Aiden will be just fine!

Ok, you know I have NO first hand experience (yet), however I just read and watched the most amazing video and book about calming colicy babies.
The Happiest Baby on the Block - Dr. Harvey Karp
If you have a chance go get the video for sure, and the book too. If you want, give me a call tomorrow and I'll give you a synopsis of what he teaches.
You definitely are NOT a failure as a mom!

breastfed my daughter for a year and the doctors did not figure it out that she was lactose intolerant till she was 3! She SCREAMED for the first 18 months! I actually had people coming to my door making sure I was not hurting her! Like I said her doctor did not figure it out but we used Mylicon drops and they seemed to settle her tummy.
