Unhappy Baby

I need advice from experienced mom's! Aiden is just a screamer. He doesn't like diaper changes, clothes changes, or baths.

He seems to have colic. As a mother it is so hard to have a screaming baby. You make sure they are fed, dry diaper, hold them, sing to them, cuddle them, try swaddle, give paci, try bouncy seat, and swing. I gave gas drops. I just don't know what to do. I feel like a failure as a mom. He has no fever!

How old is he? What formula are you using? And does he spit up or seem to have acid coming up?

He will be six weeks on Tuesday. He has started spitting up the last two days. I don't know if it is acid or not?

He is on similac sensitive. He toots a lot!!! I thought he was gassy which is why I gave him drops.

Don't get me wrong, I know babies cry. This is screaming. The pedi said some babies are more volcal and bothered by everything and he should grow out of it.

My nephew was like that.  They ended up changing his formula.  Come to find out, he was allergic to milk and milk products.  He had to go on the most costly formula there is.  He is four now and still cant have milk.  All of mine could only drink good start, the green can.  I dont remember the name of it.  I had to change them three times. Good luck.  I hope it all works out.

Molly started getting "fussier" than a normal baby at 2-3wks then it got worse and worse I was bf and supplementing with similac then we switched to enfamil sensitive and still wasn't working so we went to soy and saw an improvement then at 6ish weeks she was just so fussy and it seemed like she was having reflux (im a nurse) and so I call the pedi well they told me all that babies cry crap etc use the swing swaddle yadda yadda and I about lost it. So we went in and she was dx with reflux and started on zantac which helped! then previcid which was a even a greater improvement! I would say most likely its the formula or acid reflux or both! I would def switch formula and if that doesn't help make an appt asap....acid reflux is very comfortable.

Hoped this helps!

You can really smell it if there is a lot of acid. I know it's gross but smell his spit up.

First of all (((((((HUGS))))))) You are a great Mom. Not a failure at all! Cameron was just like that. He had reflux and he had issues with lactose. I would try switching his formula. When all else failed...my car was a blessing LOL! Cameron LOVED car rides.

If he's got a huge amount of gas, he might need a stronger, prescriptions strength gas medicine.  I've no idea what it's called - or if there are new ones out there - but my son was on it when he was an infant.  My son was pretty much born w/chronic constipation and huge gas problems - bad enough they had him on maximum ADULT doses of laxatives and he STILL wouldn't do his business! - and they had to knock him out to do some tests of his intestines.  We'd have to lay him on the floor and push his legs up on his belly and push really hard to get him to toot and to poo.  Ask your dr re the gas...and ask re the reflux others have mentioned.  Hopefully you'll get an answer.  You're not a bad mom...you just have a son who's uncomfortable and hopefully the drs will help you find out why and what to do about it.

If all else fails, take Jackie's advice...if he'll fall asleep in the car, then go for a drive.  Hopefully that'll bring him some peace and sleep...and some peace for you too.

The only advice I have that hasn't already beens said by previous posters is, my pediatrician told me that the Mylicon drops (in her opinion) only work effectively if you do them with each feeding. She told me to put the drops right into his formula. It worked well for him. He uses the Enfamil Gentlease. Good luck. It's so hard to see your baby sad and nothing you are doing is fixing it :(
