5 week sonogram shows sac only?

I had my 2nd ultrasound today. Last friday they did not see anything. Today, just a small sack that was empty. Also, I was reading the computer screen while the tech was out of the room and it said "possible ectpic/abnormal pregnancy" in the commnet section. When she came in, I asked her what it meant, and she said it was there because because last week they did not see anything but "I am still early". Then she refused to answer any questions and sent me home. I researched online what a 5 week ultrasound should look like, some definitely show but others say it is too early. I am waiting for the dr to call me back to explain. Did anyone have an ultrasound around 5 weeks, ans what did yours show? As of 2 days ago, my HCG level is 1700. I am a nervous wreck here

Yes, I went through this twice.  They checked my levels and they kept going up.  At 8 weeks, they did another u/s and they he was.  Both times.  Both times they told me it could have been because it was to early to see.  The doctor said that sometimes we miss count the date or it is just to early to see anything other than the sac.

TRY not to stress.  I was bleeding at 4 weeks 6 days and I had an U/S.  there was no sac, nothing.  All they saw was my uterus wall was thick.  They told me a few days can make a difference.  I kept having my blood drawn and then another US at 7 weeks and we saw a little flickery heartbeat.  5 weeks is a super early ultrasound.

I had an ectopic/corneal pregnancy.  The first ulstrasound was at 5-6 weeks.  They only saw a sac (it was measuring at 5weeks).  Then my HCG results came back at  180, very low, but was increasing.  (the dr did the first ultrasound) The second ultrasound was done by the tech and she really looked and sure enough, found the "real" sac.  There was tissue but no heartbeat.  The dr said that many times in ectopic pregnancies, your body will produce a cyst in the lining of your uterus that looks like a sac.  It  fools you into thinking its the real thing.  I, too, did research, and some say its too early and others say different.  I looked at others ultrasounds and you culd see a little of something, and others not.  So the best thing is to wait for the dr's call.  It is soooo hard to wait.  I understand.  And like others have said, they have had similar experiences and have normal pregnancies.

Praying for you!!

With Matty at 5 weeks we saw a small sac with nothing in it, and exactly a week later I had a tiny fetal pole with a flickering heartbeat! Your numbers are very good, so I would not panic yet (oh how easy that is for me to say, right?). Will then do another u/s for you? Make then draw your blood again to see if your levels are still going up, at least that will give you some plece of mind!

Keeping my fingers crossed that it's just early!

I think it is early and this is why a lot of Drs wont do an u/s this early. Too much stress. My Dr wouldn't even see me until 8 weeks.

Dr called me and I still don't feel better, She kept saying that it may be too early to see anything, but at this point she does not know if the pregnancy is viable (???) and wants me to go back next friday. She also kept stressing that i may have symptoms of a miscarriage within the next week and if so, to call her asap. When I asked her if she was supposed to see anything this early, she said not really. Also, that the HGC levels do not determine the fate of the pregnancy. Then she had the nerve to tell me have a nice weekend, come in wed to have your levels checked again. Her whole overall tone makes me think that a miscarriage is likely. My husband is furious with this group, says they are all unprofessional and he researched online too about 5 week sonograms, says not much will be seen.
Sigh.
Thanks everyone, for your encouraging words and thoughts. I am so glad to have you ladies here!

When I was 5 weeks preggo I thought I was m/cing because I was bleeding red blood.  The ER basically told me i was having a m/c and said "well at least you know you can get pregnant."  Had a beautiful little girl 9 months later.  TRY not to worry
