I am totally insane. (long)
I am totally addicted to taking pregnancy tests. I have PCOS and very irregular periods, which makes it impossible to know when the "right time" to take a test really is. I haven't had a period since May. All of my research shows that it is possible for me to get pregnant even with not getting a period for several months beforehand. I have been TTC since mid May of this year and have been testing about 2 times per week since then. I have never got an inconclusive result on any test before.
Anyway, since I test so often I ended up buying some cheap tests on Amazon.com. I saw someone else mention the tests on this forum I believe. The tests got great reviews overall on Amazon.com. I have been using these tests for the last 6 weeks or so. I have always gotten clear negatives. I never saw evaporation lines or anything like that before.
So this morning I took one of those tests. They are the kind that you pee in a cup and then dip the stick. There was a very faint line. I was shocked, and took a second one. Again, very faint line. I took a shower (10 mins) and let the tests sit. I still thought I was seeing things. When I got out of the shower, both tests undeniably had a faint pink line, but it was still very faint. I know I'm not supposed to look at the test after 5 minutes, but I have let one sit through my shower before and still never saw a line.
So to say the least I started totally freaking out with disbelief and excitement. I still didn't really believe I could be pregnant because of my PCOS... I really expected it to be a lot harder to conceive.
I wanted to confirm the positive with a name brand stick. I had to attend a work meeting and didn't have time to go to the store beforehand. I put a lid on my pee and brought it with me to work (I know I'm totally insane!!!) I left the "specimen" in my car, and it was about 65-70 degrees outside. After my meeting I ran to Target and bought a First Reponse with the pink dye, and a digital Clear Blue. I went back to my car and did each test with my container of pee. IN THE PARKING LOT!!! Both came up negative.
I wasn't sure if the pee was still good, after being about 1.5 hours old and room temperature. So, I did what any insane person would do, and drove all the way home to take a fresh test! LOL. It gets so much better...
So I peed in a cup again. Dipped one of the Amazon cheap tests in the fresh cup to see if I would get another light line. Negative. No evaporation line. I decided to try another one on the container of old pee that I had in the car with me. That one came back with a potential line, so faint its almost not there. The 2 positives I got earlier still had faint lines. I called my sister for support. She mentioned that when she got pregnant with her last baby, she took several negative tests before her positive. After she got a positive, she went back through her trash and pulled out the negative tests, and they had turned positive while in the trash. So of course, I went straight for my trash and pulled out the last 2 tests I had taken. There was a faint "positive line" on the ones from the trash. My heart sank. I determined that I was probably not pregnant and went to work.
Of course at work I couldn't concentrate AT ALL!!!! I stewed about this until noon and finally broke down and called my OBGYN. I asked for a blood test to check once and for all. They were great and told me to come on in. I took the blood test at 1:30pm. Went back to work and continued to not get much done. At 3:15pm my doctor's office called back and told me my blood test came back negative.
I was pretty bummed, but it makes sense.
So my question for all of you is: Has anyone had a positive pee test but then gotten a negative blood test and still was pregnant? Now I am scared to take the cheap tests anymore. Maybe I will stick to the name brand ones from now on....

I have to say that some people are going to read this and think you are totally out of your mind..I AM NOT ONE OF THEM...I was in the same situation 9 years ago when I began trying to have a baby. I too have PCOS and on top of that, by DH had had cancer adn they told him he would never concieve a child. We went through 3 years of fertility...just shots, no IVF and I too was addicted to preg tests. I would buy them and hide them so that my hubby would not see them. If one came back negative, I would try another and I SWORE I would see lines...so I totaaly get it. Have you been to an enocrinologist? That is who I saw along with fertility and I was put on metformin for my insulin resistance and along with the shots, I finaaly bacome pregnant!!! THERE IS HOPE!!! NOW....with all tht said, I decided to ahve the gastric bypass 2 years ago, I have lost 160lbs..still diabetic...had my tummy tuck this past may and guess what..came home from the beach in july and knew.....I WAS PREG!! All on my own. Let me tell you..I cried for 2 weeks since I was ok with 1 and she will be 7 2 weeks after the due date (how is that for similar??) So DO NOT LOOSE HOPE!! I have been there wanting a baby so bad but it will happen. Please feel free to email me if you need to chat, vent or have ?'s since I have been thru almost everything!! [email protected]

Ok, well I can not give any advice on the positives and negative issues, but I'm right there with you! I have very irregular periods...lucky to get them every 6 months to a year without birth control. I had RNY in 2007. I also was diagnosed with PCOS. My ex husband and I tried for about 4 years during our marriage...no bc, no protection, and worst of all no pregnancies! Then, I remarried in November of 2006 and became the stepmother to 3 girls. My new husband and I decided that I wasn't going to be on birth control monthly, but my GYN advised me that every 3 months if I did not get my period, I would test and take a around of pills for my period to start,. Well, in June I tested and the test was negative, so birth control here we come. I took my month's worth and then in July I retested because I didn't get a period like I always did...when I took birth control I ALWAYS got my period for the placebo week. I was scared and swore to my husband that I needed to invest in some type of insurance because something wasn't right. However, back in June before starting my pills I had severe breat tenderness. I told him about this also and he said I shouldn't worry and that he thought I was preggo...NO WAY! were my thoughts!
So, July 12th I went to the store and bouth a First response. Got home, took the test and a BFP!! This had never happened to me. I called my mom and then his mom who are both RNs. They assured me that false positives are rare, but to test in the morning with my first specimen. The next day was positive as well...I ended up buying so many tests...I think I took about 9 in total. I went to the health department to get enrolled in Medicaid and got another positive...I still didn't believe it and tested 3 more times before I scheduled my OB appointment!!
This pregnancy was the last thing I ever expected. And peeing on sticks...ya I did that A LOT!!! Hang in there and know there is absoloutely hope and there is never a NEVER when it comes to getting pregnant. Best of luck in finding out your answers!!

Nope - you are not crazy. I am a pee on a stick freak too. Especially since I haven't gotten my period yet from having my son and haven't been ummmmm safe about it.
I too have PCOS and a husband with very poor sperm count. We too were told that we would never get pregnant without assistance. I had assistance with my first, but conceived on my own 3 times after that resulting in 2 additional beautiful children. That being said I have used every type of freaking HPT under the sun. Whether is be a store brand, or brand name I am have peed on in it. At home, at work, at target (my 1st child I got a + at work, my 2nd at Target, and my 3rd at work! LOL!) I don't care! What I can tell you is that I have gotten false negative results with blue die tests, so I prefer to use a First Response (pink lines) and then a digital to confirm.
Just my 2 cents :) There is a website called peeonastick.com that I have found to be alot of help in the past!
Good luck!
