When to be concerned about weight?

I went to the Doctors a few weeks ago and they were showing a lot of concern about my weight gain. I have gained 15 lbs and I am only starting to stress out because they are making me! I tried to explain to them that I am not able to eat as much as I need to and that I only get to eat 1 or 2 times a day because my work does not give me breaks to eat. Well I got on the scale today at the doctors and I have not gained an ounce this month so far, but I am still worried that I am doing something wrong and that I am going to un-due my surgery. I really need to know, did anyone else gain this much in the first half of pregnancy?

My OB says most women average a pound per week gain (so at 18 wks, you'd have gained ~18 lbs) .
I wouldn't stress out about it too much. Gaining a ton can make delivery harder on you physically, and make loosing the baby weight a lot harder, but it doesn't sound like you're gaining an unreasonable amount.

See I thought I was doing pretty good myself because with my first I gained almost 100lbs in the first trimester! So I was like 15 and almost halfway through the second that can't be too bad!

I gained the fastest between weeks 16 and 20, for some reason and have slowed down since then. My average weight gain has been slightly less than a pound a week, which as someone else said is pretty normal.

I have gained a total of 16lbs. My Ob said she expects me to gain at least 2 to 3 lbs a month until the end.

I am the opposite, I can't gain weight for nothing.  I am 21 weeks and I have only gained 2lbs.  I eat all the time, and not the most healthy things.  My ob wanted me to gain 10 pounds a trimester because now I am considered underweight.  I am afraid I am gonna have a really small baby, because she isn't getting what she needs.

I cannot say to much but my Ob has stated to me that for some reason women who have had WLS tend to gain tons of weight during pregnancy for some reason. That does not mean that will ruin your surgery just some women tend to just gain it. I have no idea why but it happens and she made me see a nutritionist to make sure I am eating good and not overdoing it. However..my situation is much different than yours..I have not gained a pound yet and I am 4 months pregnant!! Which has me worried because I have not even had an ultrasound yet to see how the baby is growing. I will though in 6 more days we will see how well the baby is growing. I am very nervous but my  nutritionist said that its possible that Im actually losing weight but the baby is keeping me at the same weight cause the baby weighs. If that makes sense? Well I wish you the best of luck and would not worry to much because in the end you know you can lose the weight you gained much easier now than before you had the surgery. The surgery is a tool we were giving to work at anytime as long as we can go back to the diet we started and start over. Just have faith you will be fine and everything will be okay. Huggss

I am currently 26 weeks 3 days along and my net gain so far is 3 pounds.  It certainly isn't from lack of food!  I was concerned with the overall weight gain at the appointment about 7 weeks ago, at that point I was still only about a pound up, and my dr said that as long as I'm eating a healthy menu, that my body is doing what it's doing and that's how it is.  He said that often times if a person is on a strict eating plan that is working for them (for me, high protein and low carbs, the occasional treat but for the most part I live by the rules) and is maintaining their weight, when you get pregnant your body just takes what it needs and becomes a lean machine.  I guess that is the case with me.  We had an ultrasound yesterday to check growth and bloodflow (I'm high risk because of pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome with my last PG, so I'm being watched closely) and the baby is right about 2 pounds and she's right on target size wise for where she should be.  I'm not concerned, my dr. is not concerned and it is what it is.  If I was starving myself and my lack of gain was because I wasn't eating, that's a problem.  But I eat 3 square meals a day, with 2 snacks.  Sometimes more if I'm still hungry, but I practice portion control and eating good lean proteins first.  That is what has always worked for me.

I am also the opposite...I am almost 12 weeks and have LOST 5 lbs in just 4 weeks. I had a real issue eating before the pregnancy, really since the bypass 2 years ago and I am really trying to eat, but it is so hard for me. I am SO nauseas after I eat...so at least you are eating and gaining..look at it this way!!

I am almost 23 weeks along now and just had my 1 year post op appointment today. My gastric bypass surgeon noted that I have gained 15 pounds since my last appointment 6 months ago. He was disappointed in me and told me to lay off of the breads and fruits, and that he felt maybe I should increase my exercising and try not to gain any more weight,  which made me stressed out all day until I called my OB office. My OB is a high risk doctor and he was annoyed that my gastric bypass doctor laid in on me like that. He says that I am perfectly fine with my 15 pound gain at this point and that if I happen to gain 12-15 pounds more he will still be okay with that! My labs were all normal and my BP has been 120/70's, so what's the deal? I plan on laying off of the carbs completely after delivery and I will be working out a ton more! I only weigh 185 today at my appointment and I think that's pretty good for being 23 weeks along!
