hey ladies, i am 11 months out and found out this last week that i'm pregnant.  this came as a shock to me as i was on the pill, however i am overjoyed to become a mommy again.  i have a few questions though;
1.  what changes do i need to make as far as eating/vitamins etc?
2.  i heard post op pregnancies are considered high risk, is that true?
3.  i'm still losing, when will that stop?
i go for my 1 year fallow up oct 11 and see my family doc sept 22 but until then any information you can share would be appreciated, thanks.

1. Talk to your doctor, your NUT and your ob/gyn and come up with something that works for me. It's all going to depend on if you're still losing fast, and whether or not you have any deficiencies in your blood work, which should be checked a lot while you're pregnant.

2. For me, yep - and I've heard that whether you're having problems or not, all post-op WLS people are high risk "just because".

3. Just make sure you eat! The "honeymoon phase" is different for everyone. Please make sure you take all of the vitamins you're supposed to along with whatever pre-natal vitamins your doctors tell you to take. Eat healthy, eat often, and stay hydrated.

I'm almost 4 years out and I'm not considered "high risk" with my doctors. Eating has been difficult for me...one day I'm starving the next I don't even feel like touching food. I'm trying to eat healthier things like incorporating things like oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast or carnation instant breakfast. I'm not sure why but it seems like every day for lunch I want the same thing...Stouffer's turkey and dressing with mashed potatoes. I can only manage to eat about half of it, but some days it goes right down. Everyone is different when it comes to their needs, so I suggest talkingt o your doctors and nut and get as much input from them as you can. As for the weight, I gained close to 5 pounds, but now I am down to 2 pounds under my starting weight at 183. My OB wants me to try to gain a few pounds this trimester, but so far my scale is going in the other direction. I take a Prenate Essential vitamin every morning. I was HORRIBLE about my vitamins post op and haven't taken any in years, but that's all I'm taking and my NP (also a post op) has said my blood work levels are fine and I have no issues...however it varies with everyone, so a good check can be to ask your doctor to check your levels with your bloodwork. Best of luck in your pregnancy! And Congrats! :)

No doctors here consider any wls a high risk. I have other issues that make me high risk but the surgery is not one of them. I say just eat healthy and dont fall into the cravings for sugar and bad stuff. I just take 2 prenatals a day and 4 calcium. I also have my prevacid I take daily. Losing will just depend on how you eat and all but they told me it would not effect the baby as long as I ate the right things. I lost 20 pounds in the beginging and gained 14 back. SO as long as baby is growing it wont matter what ya weigh Just eat some good stuff and add some carbs back in
